Amazon Continues Home Infiltration with Dash Wand with Alexa Accessory

Amazon is trying hard to get into our homes through “automation” products. This was evident with their Amazon Fire TV with voice remote (their first product with voice controls). Then they had the Amazon Echo followed by the Echo Dot and now we have the Amazon Dash Wand with Alexa (that is the name of this thing).

The Amazon Dash Wand is $20 with a $20 Amazon credit available making the accessory effectively free. Now, why would you want this? According to Amazon the Wand with Alexa has plenty of uses, all of which are simply duplicating what your cell phone can do already.

First, you can use the device to scan barcodes of items in your home that you could possibly need more of (soap, detergent, etc). Next, there is a mic and a button available for you to use Alexa to add items to your shopping order that you don’t have a barcode for. This means you can order whatever you want from Amazon and have it shipped to you.

If you live in an area supported by AmazonFresh then you can get three months free of that service. The Amazon Dash Wand with Alexa does allow use of most of Alexa’s features such as unit conversion, accessing your calendar, traffic reports etc.
