SteemPi | Steem, Gaming and Movies on your TV! (Installation now takes just 10 minutes)

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

This version is so easy to install and includes so many features..

It's Insane!

This release includes SteemPi v2 and two of the most popular Raspberry Pi projects into one SD card image file, This will turn your Raspberry Pi into a powerfull Steem, retro gaming and movie playing TV-Box, the SteemPi software is still in development but this configuration previews features of the future versions of SteemPi in a already usable and expandable way.

Installing is no different compared to any other Raspberry Pi OS and so you would only need one of the disk image tools (for example Win32 diskimager) to write the SteemPi image to your SD card. it will take around 10 min depending on the speed of the SD card that is used.

"It's free and will always be free!"

The text of this post is checked by @inquirgtimes, SteemPi project is here today because the work and help of @dehenne and @mkt. Please also have a look at their work and projects.

Making all this easy to install took a very long time (days) mostly because i needed to find and try the different ways of combining everything and not always with succes, but most of the big pieces are now included and all working smooth in this easy to install SteemPi image file, the ideology is that future versions of SteemPi will have the above features and other related features in a more integrated and elegant way, to compete and give a open alternative to commercially available TV connected devices (Android, Amazon and Apple TV) and game consoles such as the (Super) Nintendo classic and the NVIDIA shield.

Let's bring Steem to the big screen and the users of the big screen to Steem!

Keep up the good work! Keep an eye on @dlive too. If live streaming can be broadcast on steempi. That might be huge!

Thanks will do, and definitely interesting feature to have.

wow, you guys are really cranking out the updates on this, you know what you need now is some really nice installer program to install it with. i use a few other platforms

:) Trying to have updates for SteemPi regularly. There are at the moment 2 ways to get SteemPi,

Most easy is with the SD card image, takes around 10 min. (described in this post).

Or the other way is with a non graphical installer but it wont halt for input from the user.
(installation can take a hour and the users would need to use a bit of CLI) (instructions on the SteemPi Github)

A installer that halts or gives option to install parts would also be nice to have.

Thanks for your reply and support

Excellent job my friend. Congratulations! I will download today :-)

:) happy to read that, thanks, please let me know the results

I have to buy a mouse and keyboard, only have a laptop. When I have these, I will install :-)

Thank you very much ! It is a very good project !

WOW, I missed a lot! I was distracted for quite a bit of time. Really need to look into this again!

Thank you, let's catch up again in the chat.

Yes, lets do that. Coming week I shall make some time.

This looks amazing, congratulations for this project !!

Thank you :)

I just made an attempt to use the install script on the orangepi 0
I did not yet get to the led as I have to find out the pin numbers. Do I have to reboot to get the new interface?

Hi and thanks for installing,

The installation script tested ok on Orange Pi PC+ (on top of the Armbian OS) a reboot was needed for me as well.

The installation script does not yet include RetroPie and Kodi, Kodi can be installed with a single line, but for RetroPie it is a bit more complicated to run all 3 (RetroPie, Kodi and SteemPi), on the to do list is a image file for Orange Pi PC+ and, Lite that have the same option as the in this posted mentioned image file for the Raspberry Pi (with RetroPie, Kodi and SteemPi.)

In step 3 on the below link you can find how to Install wiringpi library to be able to control the GPIO pins.

To know where you your upvote led need to be connected you can than do: gpio readall to get a diagram displayed to find the right pins.

I'm at discord as well

Cool stuff! Does it include Steem-python library? Somehow I cannot install it on my computers including my Dell and Pi 3..... so if this one includes it, I will definitely switch over....
oh... then I cannot post how I make SteemPi works on my Pi 3 anymore.....

Its fully "plug and play" and installs like any other Raspberry Pi image, you should not have any issues with it (i hope :) , please let me know the results)

I mean for Steem-Python Library, I cannot make the installation complete.

Anyway, was about to download SteemPi v2 image but failed as it is host on Google drive, I cannot access it from China. Need to wait until I return to HK, unless there is another source that I can download it.

i have added a torrent file to the website, i wil be seeding it, if other people also want to seed it that would be nice and helpful.

Its almost 8 GB not easy to quickly share, i'm making a torrent file and will seed it

This looks like the perfect image for one of my Pi´s, also RetroPi included :D!

I will definitly give it a try the next few days :)

I was too late to upvote your Post, so i took some of your Comments if you may wonder ;)

This is awesome guys! keep up the good work.

So, can we upload our own movies to it?

Thanks for your reply :) Yes you can copy your own movies to it, just boot up SteemPi (press f10 from SteemPi to go to the Desktop and click and open Kodi with the desktop shortcut. Put your movies on a USB stick and put it in the Pi and map the usb stick / movie folder with Kodi (Kodi will find and scrape the movie covers, IMDB details, and subtitles)

That is SO COOL! I love it.
