RE: AI and Robotics : The Tools of Next-Gen Warfare

in #technology7 years ago

Interesting ideas, and right in the ballpark as far as I'm concerned. However, even while I agree with some of this, there is one truth of human combat that still exists. Regardless of how you take ground....you need human being to hold said ground.

Even with the advent of AI war machines, as long as it's still a human conflict, men will have to hold the ground. Sure machines might be dispatched to an area and might be able to stop the ground from being retaken....but with the guy on the ground it simply won't feel like we've "taken it." Further, this does not address indigenous people living on land that swaps hands during combat. Machine only interaction simply wouldn't work.

I hope machines don't replace us en masse in combat for one reason.....there will always be human casualties and if too much on one side is machinery, we may begin to forget the human cost of war and how horrible it is. Leading to a kind of apathy and possibly much greater human suffering.

As an aside, got to play with the robot in your first pic and let me tell you....it is a badass piece of machinery. But it is run by a human, so no AI....yet.

Very interesting points! I understand the point you have made about the human necessity to occupy conquered land. Even in robotic warfare assuming the robots havent completely taken control it must follow some code of conduct... They say there are no rules in war but doesnt the Geneva convention modify thay saying and add a clause that for some nations there are. That is an amazing piece of military tech... The enemy wont stand a chance when a device like that goes online with AI in a fully robotic format. Thanks for your thoughts.
