Weaponised Drones Can Pose Serious Dangers In The Future

So, yesterday, I was watching the movie Angel Has Fallen and a particular part of the story forced me to think about drones and what effect they could have in the future.

If you haven't seen the movie, I suggest you do but if you have already, you will know what I'm talking about. Basically, a swarm of drones were used by a group of terrorists to attack the US President.

They used all sorts of tech in the drones which led to the demise of almost all of the Secret Service and almost the President. They used facial recognition to confirm their targets, explosives to kill their targets and used swarm intelligence to execute the whole thing.

The whole thing looked super easy to replicate in the real world. I am no expert but it looks like the technology might already be there where such a thing would be possible.

Weaponised Drones - Scary Future

This poses a really grim picture of the future. Drones are virtually everywhere. They are used for photography, in the film industry, in entertainment, construction and even search and rescue. As such, their benefits are huge and can't be ignored.

But as with all technology, this one is a double-edged sword too. Drones can not only be used to spy on people but can also be used to kill them. It wouldn't be difficult for someone to put some kind of explosives on it and just set it off to its target.

In the future, the technology will improve so much, that identifying and eliminating a target will be as easy as playing a video game. And it could all be automated! Now, that's the scary part.

Also, in the future, drones will be even more prominent, and we could expect the skies to be filled with them. As such, it would be easier for a weaponised drone to mask itself and kill a target. I don't know what can be done to prevent this, but I hope regulators all around the globe have paid attention to this.

Hi @sauravrungta, you are right, what scares most about AI are the intelligent weapons but, honestly, I fear more the natural dizziness of military humans.

Terrorists have already been using drones like this for years. I think the most prominent organization calls itself "The Government of the United States of America." There 's also this from a couple years back:

The people who appoint themaelves to regulate sich things are the ones behind inventing such things. Ordinary people are interessted in photography, filmmaking, racing, package delivery, and other peaceful drone uses. As with all technology, government violence, blowback from government violence, and the ocvasional nutjob justify more overreach. It's insane.
