The more artificial intelligence is developed as a technology and the more different researchers around the world make use of it in varying fields resulting in promising use cases, the more it seems like AI will help mankind like no other technology before it.

Already it is augmenting human life in so many ways and experts say that this is just the beginning. Imagine what we can achieve with it in the coming decades where exponential progress will evolve it into something that we cannot even imagine today.

I believe that there will be no aspect of our lives that will be untouced by one form of AI or the other. It will kind of become indispensable for running our day to day life and also saving it.

One example comes from a recent study conducted by DeepMind, a company owned by Alphabet, Google's parent company. They have designed an AI system that can predict whether someone is going to have an acute kidney condition 48 hours in advance.

Predicting Organ Failures

If we could predict any diseases that we might suffer from or any organs that might fail in our body, it would be a huge boon as we could take preventive measures to stop them from happening in the first place. As always, prevention is always much better than cure.

AI, it seems could help us do that. The team at DeepMind fed health data of more than 700,000 Veterans Affairs hospital into their system and the results were highly promising. The AI was able to predict with 90% certainty whether a patient was going to need a dialysis 48 hours before the problem occurred.

Not only that the system can even tell doctors what part of a patient's medical data caused it to come at the prediction and so, doctors can study them manually and arrive at the solutions from thereon.

Even though their AI system still needs some work, as it also gave two false positives for every correct prediction, the level of advancement is really remarkable. It is bound to get only better from here.

In the future, we might have highly advanced AI systems that will be able to predict any disease we might get or any organ that might fail much before they happen. It could save millions of lives around the world.
