Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and several other technology company CEOs urged US President Donald Trump to defend one of the immigrant programs called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). They refused to abolish the policy.
"If we do not act now defend the DACA, as many as 780 thousand hard-working youth will lose their ability to work legally in this country, and every one of them risk being deported immediately," read their open statement,
In this case, DACA itself is a program that allows undocumented immigrant youths to postpone their deportation. The plan of this program will soon be removed by Trump.
Where the program that began since the administration of Barack Obama in 2012 allows anyone under the age of 16 who came to the US postpone deportation and get permission to work, under a number of conditions. Ends every two years, the program also needs to be updated.
In addition, the business leaders reminded if there would be a big economic impact if the program is removed. All DACA program recipients grow and are enrolled in the US government, passing long background checks, obeying rules and diligently paying their income taxes.
"More than 97% attend school and work, 5% start a business and 65% buy a vehicle, and 16% buy their first home here at least 72% of Top 25 Fortune 500 Companies have employees who receive DACA program," he wrote.
In addition to Zuckerberg, other executives who signed the letter were Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, interim CEO of Pandora Naveen Chopra, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, CEO of Snap Evan Spiegel, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Electronic Arts boss Jacob Schatz, and Univision boss Randy Falco
