On the Future of Technology and Work and The Role Of Abundance In Innovation
One of the thing that have amazed me the most about Nature is the level of abundance that it bring us.
We currently have more than what we need and despite the huge population of the earth there is still a lot of things to go around. Oxygen which is the most Important resource for Life is readily available and we have more sunlight than we need
When it comes to Man Made resources, we are living in a period of time where what is possible is speeding up at such an alarming rate and it is causing a lot disruptions in the Human Space
Things which were very relevant in the past are becoming more and more obsolete at a fast pace. This have led to a lot of theories. Everyone is obsessed with how long it will take before technology makes their jobs obsolete
Technology has its pains as well as its purposes, but what I have discovered is that most time we are not paying attention to the 'real' pains. We chose to focus on how technology will affect our livelihood while ignoring how it is affecting the next generation
While the Internet has successfull;y brought us 'together' we find out that we are also disconnected from other Humans at the same time. We are fast losing the things that make us Humans while focusing on vanity metrics
It reminds me of a saying made by an acquaintance of mine
I Sold My Soul For Digits On The Internet
If you don't really know what I am talking about, check your Facebook profile, I bet you have hundreds or even thousands of friends. How many of them do you chat or Interact it ?
Away from the negatives effects of the Internet lets move on to the major thing I am writing about
Like I said earlier, when most people think of technology , they think of how it will affect their livelihood . But if you check it you will find out that when technology closes one door it opens another
There have been calls from some quaters that Cryptocurrency mining is not good , because it zaps a huge amount of electricity, I have seen charts of doom signaling on how cryptocurrency mining is killing us by taking huge chunks of electricity
The move towards a higher demand for electricity for automated cars, cryptocurrency mining means that there will be more demand for electricity. However at the same time, this will end up ignite the drive we have all desired towards the development of alternate sources of energy
Most developing countries will see an increase in their economies as most of them have abundant Sunlight, the Sun currently emits 8000 times more energy than we need. Companies that produce Solar energy equipments will win also construction firms that are well versed in building homes that makes use of Solar energy will progress
In Fifteen to Twenty years from now, it will be strange to have a home without a Solar Roof. - Elon Musk 2017
Smart cities are already working on Introducing electrical autonomous cars and research has shown that this is 10 times more cheaper than owning a Car. Over time this will also become common place in Urban areas
Car ownership is projected to become unpopular(dead) by 2025. Different tech companies are working on different autonomous Car solutions. Ford is planning on delivering high volume fully automated rider sharing cars by 2021.
GM also partnered with LYFT to effect the deployment of self driving cars. And Google is working on WAYMO with chrysler and LYFT
This research by HootSuite shows that it is only 53% of the world's population that is currently online. There are Billions of people still out of the Loop that is why companies like Google are working on projects like LOON that will bring Internet access to people in remote areas
Data has become the driver of the current economy, a form of digital gold that can be traded and benefitted from. The reason why it if free for you to use paltforms like Google and Facebook is because they will gain access to your data and use it to turn up profit
If a Product is Free, You are the Product
