ZeroNet - A decentralized Internet

ZeroNet is a software that enables websites hosted in a completely decentralized way. To view a website on ZeroNet, you simply enter the URL into your browser. Note that this URL starts with http://127.0.0.1:43110, because it actually connects to the ZeroNet instance on your computer. After that comes either a hash, like 1HeLLo4uzjaLetFx6NH3PMwFP3qbRbTf3D, or an address, like http://127.0.0.1:43110/kaffiene.bit/.

Now when you request a website, your client will connect to other nodes that seed the page, and request the page data. Usually, this just takes a few seconds. After the download is finished, you can use the website. At the same time, you become a seeder, so other users can request the website from you. While ZeroNet is running, all your websites are updated automatically. Because websites are stored on your PC, you can even use them without Internet!

There is already a variety of websites on ZeroNet. Most of them are relatively new and simple, as developers still have to figure out how to build websites with ZeroNet. And many things are more difficult to make, compared to normal websites on the internet. Nevertheless, there are already some great sites:

Web Forums

ZeroTalk is a forum mainly about ZeroNet itself. But also ZeroNet websites are discussed, and also general topics. On the other hand, ZeroList is only about websites, which makes it a great place to find new websites hosted on ZeroNet. Surprisingly, even a 4chan clone is available, called 0chan. At the moment, there seem to be very few posters.

ZeroMe - Twitter Clone

ZeroMe is a real social network, where you can write posts, comment on other posts, and follow users. While I'm not a Twitter user myself, the look and feel is quite similar to it.

Torrent Websites

There are already multiple torrent websites available. ZeroTorrent has various categories, a search function, and lots of different torrents. Someone is even working on a new KickAssTorrents! But the most well-known torrent site is probably Play, which was even featured on TorrentFreak some time ago.

Youtube Alternatives

Some people are already working on websites for video streaming. The most promising of them is called Videorama. It stores all the videos directly on ZeroNet. At the moment, there are only some test videos. But it is already possible to upload videos, so new content should be coming soon.
