My dad got ransomware on a computer a few years ago. He is 70 and was almost tricked into paying the guy who put it on there money. He was still using Windows XP though and didn't have any protection on it. It was an old computer so I had to explain ransomware to him and convinced him to trash the old computer for a newer model.
Pretty sad, he have to trash the computer. This is what I am saying, If big companies aren't safe, and they can easily cover up their loses, how safe we are in this world.
