Harry Potter and the Portrait of what Looked Like a Large Pile of AshsteemCreated with Sketch.

Good news, Potter-fans! There is a new Potter opus! Bad news: it's not JK Rowling's work!

It is actually the brain child of Botnik Studios who describe themselves as such:

Botnik is a community of writers, artists and developers collaborating with machines to create strange new things. The community is open to everyone.   Botnik Studios is an entertainment group devoted to displaying the work of the larger community.

What it means is that they use predictive text and algorithms to re-engineer songs, novels, articles and create incredibly satisfying absurd masterpieces.

And they have done thus with Harry Potter, feeding all the books of the saga to the computer, and getting an amazing result, something close to an hommage or a pastiche, I'm not really sure exactly in what proportion:

I don't know you, but for me it's difficult not to find pure poetry in sentences like:

The sky outside was a great black ceiling, which was full of blood.
Lathery sheets of rain lashed at Harry's ghost as he walked across the grounds.
The floor of the castle seemed like a large pile of magic.

Or pure comedy gold in those others:

He saw Harry and immediately began to eat Hermione's family.
They looked at the door, screaming about how locked it was and asking it to be replaced with a small orb.
Mountains of mice exploded.

Or pure horror:

Harry tore his eyes from his head and threw them into the forest.

A very nice experiment, who probably won't amuse that much the Potter fans but it shows that how many monkeys you put on how many keyboards... It's a long way before AI is able to write the great books which make us dream.

But they can still make us laugh!

Funny? Yes. Whew, it IS reassuring that human writers will be safe from AI taking their jobs. The human experience is something that cannot be duplicated by any machine, no matter how sophisticated. While, at the same time, AI does provide us with amusement.

I happen to be a huge fan of absurdism so this is right up my alley. If you click on where it says Harry Potter at the bottom there's apparently a lot more like this one: The minister of magic signed pictures of harry’s sausage, still staring down approvingly.

hhaahahaha! missed that one ^^

I'm safe with my writing - for the moment, at least 😉

Thanks for sharing!

Yeah, literature is proving to be way more difficult for AI than building a car or stuff like this ^^
