New Smart Glasses Bring A Mix Of VR And AI To The Assembly Line

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Lenovo is expected to begin mass production on their new smart glasses this month.

The New Glass C200 single-eye lens , smart glass product, was previously unveiled at CES 2017. The new product is a mixture of both virtual reality technology and artificial intelligence and it's used in conjunction with a smartphone device.

The new smart glasses are being marketed as a tool that can ideally enable clients to be better at their jobs by providing them with the tools to gather valuable info right in front of them without having to lift their hands to do anything. The glasses will be able to view a number of objects, identify them, be able to provide instructions and troubleshooting assistance.

At the moment, some 39 percent of companies say that they use some form of AR technology in their business and the other 67 percent says that they are considering the use of it. Even the US military is looking to include some “tactical augmented reality” into their work model.

Ideally, the smart glasses by Lenovo are going to act like an AI assistant.

And the Lenovo glasses aren't the only ones out there of course, they are looking to compete with Epson's Moverio, the Vuzix M300, the ODG R-7, and others. Many are also expecting Apple to release their own iGlass smart glasses some day soon as well.

The single-lens smart glasses by Lenovo, project images onto the lens that are able to assist the wearer of the glasses with what they are doing. The AI software is able to identify whatever the user might be looking at.

Lenovo has said that AR and VR together are a next generation technology and that it's going to change the world. Might these ones do better than Google Glass which was described by many to have been a total flop? Among the suggestions for the apparent failure of the Google Glass option were things like concern over aesthetics, no clear function, and health concerns, among other reasons.

Could you see yourself finding these smart glasses useful at your place of work? Or even in your own private time for recreational use?

Depending on how effective the tool is, we might see this version make its way into a number of different business spaces; adopted by commercial business clients for their employees. The glasses might prove to be a useful tool with regard to those who are training on the job; offering them an extra layer of assistance in helping them to learn how to perform their job duties.

Aside from the glasses being able to offer instructions and other similar information, they can play music, do a search on the web, offer calendar reminders, and more.

This new tech would be fairly pricey at first. The trick is to make improvements along the way that costumers would want to buy it.

Though judging by history, we could again see Chinese companies make it extremely cheap that only the market leader would remain.

Do you think Apple will be far behind to bring to market ? I'm hoping other brands can get a good head start and price point so they can weather the apple storm if and when it comes!

Smart glasses might be rolling out soon but I dont think its gonna trend with the current lifestyle of peoples. It would require a lot of styling to make it desirable by not only us nerds but normal peoples too.

Augmented reality i think will be more for education side of things and will be great for schools and colleges etc. Ready Player One is my current favourite book and i have only used gear vr which is not bad as i cannot afford a VR PC yet. I think the vive will be the first to offer true wireless VR and i hope i have enough money to pay for it when it comes out.

Love the idea of new tech still a bit sceptical on VR

This may take people alittle getting used to. The technology market is almost going to fast for our brains. #Steemfam

Lenovo really conquered the tech market within the last years. But anyways it's awesome to see all those new developments happening and the new products getting on the market. I'm really curious where it will lead in the end as it's currently not a real main stream thing yet.

This will surely begin a new revolution.... You know why?.... Let me tell you...
Because it's the future and people will love it
But there should be proper competitive market... Monopoly will spoil it anyway... Like every other thing

I cant wait till the day you can walk down the street wearing a pair of glasses and get a real time feed of the world around you. Imagine sitting on a tube and you can look at the person opposite and know their name, interests etc all pulled from FB via facial recognition --- not in a creepy way by the way lol ;)

still need them floating chairs lol

I would like to get one because it seems awesome.
how much do you think the price would be?

i saw one page say around 3500 but i dont think that was official, so i'm not certain

3500 usd??

not an official estimate lol :) but other similar glasses have cost between 1-3k

but that's too much lol

some people spend 600-700 on a cellphone so .. who knows! lol they might find some buyers

sure they will find some buyers but also sure I'm not one of them hahaha
