Graphene Clothing Hits The Market In China

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Graphene has made its way to a variety of different market spaces already and clothing is just one more area that we are going to start to see this technology be unveiled.

By combining the graphene with high polymer materials under room temperature, researchers have now been successful in making a graphene fiber. And that graphene fiber is now being used to produce a variety of products: sports wear, clothing, and underwear garments.

The graphene is said to provide the clothing with more function like being ultraviolet-proof, effective at preserving heat, it's antibacterial, and anti-static. The graphene fiber has been developed by the Shanghai Kyorene New Material Technology Co, and they've been awarded a patent both at home and abroad for their design.

Their new fiber is fully combined with graphene, making it a remarkably unique material. The director of the China National Textile and Apparel Council has described the invention as an extraordinary achievement in the way of being able to provide new textile materials and to help boost China's competence internationally.

Graphene has the potential to be widely used for wearable electronics and medical implants, and scientists have even been able to produce a sort of super silk by feeding garphene to silkworms. We could see the prevalence of this material expand rapidly within the fashion world.

And of course it isn't just the fashion world that graphene has proved useful, there is talk of it being used for a number of things: bike helmets, bridge repairs, tires, paint, OLED displays, it's even been successful at enabling electronic skin to feel which could prove remarkably valuable to the area of prosthetic limbs and AI design.

It is no surprise that this technology has caught the interest of so many around the globe and that it has been described as a miracle material. It's unique properties really make for an exciting adventure in discovering where and how this material could be used to improve our lives and shape the future.

Wow this is very interesting. A very novel use of grapheme indeed...And I always thought that Graphene is only used in pencils. I mean this is what I was taught in the school chemistry class..Or maybe I was not paying attention :)

you're right! pencil + sticky tape

I knew it was time for another Graphene post by you hahaha!

I could feel it coming in the air tonite like a Phil Collins song

LOL

when there is good news surrounding some achievement or advancement in the area, it interests me.....how'd you..know....? :p

Hahaha bro, we got some solid inside jokes man!

Guess who flies into Seattle tonite for a series???

thanks for your support.

Great post!

Disclaimer: I am a nanoscience major who has had hands-on experience with graphene and other nanoscale materials.

Most of the graphene fibers on the market today are pretty bogus - there is very promising work in this area though.

I am a bit worried about using some of these nano-materials in clothes. There is very little study on how these particles bioaccumulate and if they are safe to be keeping so close to your body. There are similar issues with things like silver nanoparticle infused socks so they don't smell. They might have some nice anti-microbial properties but their interaction in the human body is not fully understood.

These products are on the nanoscale. Each fiber or particle is on the order of a few nanometers. About 10 atoms make up a single nanometer. These materials are only hundreds of atoms across; orders of magnitude smaller than things like cells and bacteria.

It will be interesting seeing how these ultra-strong fibers will be used in the future. The least interesting one will be clothing.

I sell foot related products and one of the top covers we use is silver infused neoprene. Been using it for years. I think silver is safe even inside the body.

Yeah it might be, who knows if there really is silver nanoparticles there in the first place. Not much regulation there.

Many of the interactions between AgNPs and the human body are very poorly understood. AgNPs are generally regarded as quite safe around the human body but we do not know about long term issues. While they may be safe around humans, they have been known to wash out of clothing items very quickly and end up in the water supply. The effects and bioremediation are unknown.

AgNPs can be toxic to wildlife and introducing them into the environment should be done with caution.

Sounds like Asbestos part II! Good insite Kyle.

This is an interesting read. I admit I don't know much about graphene, but I always find it fascinating to see how technology and fashion come together. People are already familiar with every possible shape or silhouette, so designers work with new materials to create better garments that will continue to captivate the public.

Sounds amazing, so many uses. Thanks for the share my friend, going to do some more reading on this. Resteemed.

2 years back I recommended a stock for my dad. It was a graphene stock which was going to print batteries. It to this day still hasn't
moved. Wrong company I guess lol

Yeah buzz buzz buzz - it actually doesn't work.

Li-ion batteries will enjoy great gains from carbon based electrodes but all this printing stuff is way too far out commercially to be making any money on the stock.

If you want to make money on battery tech look at the ones who are actually making them at scale.

good cuz I thought my silver stack was gonna become obsolete :)

wonder how many there are

donno, but I'm looking at more future stuff. There is a tech stock I have been looking at. Issues relating to ex wife so I haven't invested yet. I'm pretty good at identifying good stocks, just bad at capitalizing.

i got a few mining ones a couple years ago, they haven't done much lol

silver. miners make some good coin. It's a very depressed market one that will have to come back soon

long game tho ;) on those haha

Really cool use of an interesting material, good research and well written post!

Great Article and Research. I have been enamored with Graphene and its amazing properties and applications. .Looking forward to see more of your posts.

thanks man :)

  • following you!

Woah. Cool!

The more I read about graphene the more I see it as a miracle material. Great post!

I wouldn't call it a miracle but it is going to become increasingly useful when we gain more efficient manufacturing capacity
