X-rays already exist with color

A New Zealand company was the first to find a way to make color radiographs of the human body through an advanced medical scanner. The device uses Medipix 3 technology that has been under development at CERN for 10 years to meet the needs of Particle Detection of the Large Hadron Collider accelerator.

This technology is capable of producing high resolution images through particle tracking. Medipix devices work as a camera that can identify individual subatomic particles as they enter and contact the sensor while the shutter is open. According to Phil Butler, one of the developers of the scanner, the Timepix 3 chip is really responsible for this advancement. According to him: "Small pixels and precise resolution mean that this new imaging tool is capable of producing images like no other nowadays".

By combinning information produced by chip with the algorithmos owners, the scientists of the MARS were able to produce three-dimensional color images where they can distinguish the fat, water and indications of diseases.

There is a smaller version of the device that has been used for the study of cancer and vascular diseases that has already produced promissory results and, thanks to the agreement between MARS, the producer of the new device, and CERN, this technology will be completely marketed.

Soon this scanner will be used in the first clinical tests that will focus on the specialties of rheumatology and orthopedics.
