We are very good at predicting what is going to happen the next minute. Or at least we try to anticipate actions and we like that. However, sometimes we forget what should be the next step to be taken. Imagine you are cooking, and suddenly you got a call or you started thinking about something which is irrelevant to what you are doing, your chances of forgetting a single step in cooking would be more. So, you may think of a robot that could help you to remember.

For this, the researchers of the University of Bonn, University of computer science and Prof. Dr Jürgen Gall wanted to develop a robot that could self-learn and anticipate the future with timing and duration of the activity. Therefore, they developed a robot that anticipates the future with a profound accuracy. But for this to be done, they made the bot to self-learn several sequences and procedures. The training includes 40 videos of preparation of salad and of completely different procedures, which are watched by the computer for 4 hours. The computer learned the processes and what action follows the other.

"”Then we tested how successful the learning process was," explains Gall. "For this, we confronted the software with videos that it had not seen before." At least the new short films fit into the context: They also showed the preparation of a salad. For the test, the computer was told what is shown in the first 20 or 30 percent of one of the new videos. On this basis, it then had to predict what would happen during the rest of the film. “Accuracy was over 40 percent for short forecast periods, but then dropped the more the algorithm had to look into the future."”

This seems to be astonishing. The researchers affirm that the computer is in infancy and I think they develop the system even more so that every household has it, and it may be used to anticipate dire consequences.
