Left-right independence
With today's article, I want to show a simple way by which the right-left independence can be trained. Wikipedia provides a lot of useful information on handedness, which I will not go into.
What we need:
- two hands
- a surface in front of us
That should not be a problem.
Exercise 1
First we start drumming a straight beat: 1-2-3-4 alternately with the right and the left hand, so that after the 4 we can start again at the 1 again. The 1 is a little stressed.
1 right
2 left
3 right
4 left
...........
Now it will be difficult :) We start now with the left hand:
1 on the left
2 right
3 left
4 right
...........
Always try to drum evenly, especially after the 4 no break, but again from the beginning with the 1, and a little stressed.
Everyone should make it to this point, you will experience for yourself how different the feeling will be when you exchange your hands, ie from the first part to the second part.
Now begins the advanced course!
Exercise 2
Until 4 was not difficult, was not a breeze, so to speak. Now it goes to 6, but with a little addition.
A 6th beat can be stressed differently, either
1-2
3-4
5-6
So with 3 of two beats or
1-2-3
4-5-6
So with 2 three beats.
We dedicate ourselves to the second version. Every 3 beats one is to be emphasized, so the 1st and the 4th. The 1st is drummed with right, the 4th with left, because we drum with both hands just alternately.
It's best to count with a loud voice:
one two three four five six
If that works out well, and it should be fun after a while, you may already be thinking of what's coming: Right, let's start with LEFT! That will be fun.
Do not worry, cursing will not help, only by concentration will you be able to coordinate your hands.
Try this for a minute or more and your brain will balance. In other words, the activity of the active brain is shifted to the other side, so that both hemispheres are activated.
For left-handed people, I could rewrite the post, but I'm assuming that they'll understand that they will start with the second version and then switch to the first version.
Was wir benötigen:
1-2
3-4
5-6
also mit 3 zweier Beats oder
1-2-3
4-5-6
also mit 2 dreier Beats.

Omg! This was really easy to me xD since I am a drummer, I'm used to do these kind of exercises every day, and unconsciously I do it when I'm stressed, doing that really helps me to release stress even though people say I'm crazy, haha. I would say rudiments help a lot to accustom the brain of a drummer I dare say they are fundamental.
We both have some things in common Shaman, we both like chess and drums, haha, cheers!
"handedness" has actually been observed in many species of animals (notably parrots and crows, but even housepets, too). A positive correlation between handedness and intelligence has been demonstrated in these species; not left- or right-handedness, per se, but the preference of one hand over another. Handedness actually correlates to greater development of one side of the brain, or "lateralisation." It's possible that handedness arose as a result of a greater degree of brain organization, specialization of regions of the brain to deal with particular challenges.
incredible thing you came up with today cool :)
@ schamangerbert .................such a very informative post.........really its a very beneficial exercise 1-2..........for our health......and also knowledgeable ....i agree with you........carry on.......i wait for your next post....
Thanks for sharing the great exercises @schamangerbert!
BTW, I am a right Hand person
that was fun! I tried it:)
I'm right handed:) one of my dreams is to learn how to play drums aside from karate:)
The basic course starts soon :)
Hahahahahahaa my baby is also trying it he is much better than I am.... 😊😊😊
This is very difficult for me to follow! I cannot see or visualise this!
But I need to improve my left and right brain integration!!
Thanks for sharing this knowledge.
