World's deepest mine in South Africa.

in #teamsouthafrica6 years ago

Another one of those days when I had to travel out of Johannesburg, this time to Potchefstroom, work-related.
I enjoy days of long distance travel more as I get my phone ready to take pictures of the beautiful scenery of South Africa. I only agree to drive when I am satisfied with taking pictures to relief my colleague.

Potchefstroom is in the North-West Province of South Africa situated on the banks of Mooi Rivier ( Meaning "beautiful river").

But here's what caught my attention; the deepest mine in the world, yes the Mponeng Gold Mine.
Like a bird's eye view I spotted the mine kilometres away and I was ready with my phone... I am never happy with pictures I take when in motion on the road.

The Mponeng Gold Mine is over 4 kilometres below the surface. It's takes over an hour trip from surface to the bottom. On reading about the mine I learned the temperature reaches about 66 degrees Celsius and the mine pumps slurry ice underground to cool the tunnel air below 30 degrees Celsius. Now, honestly I won't be able to work there! I can't take such heat.
Below are some pictures I took with my phone and I had to get one picture from Google to give you a better picture of the mine, I trust you will identify that particular one I got from Google. But yeah I will get better with the pictures....

And here are some pictures on arrival to Potchefstroom as well.
I had a great day!

South Africa through your lens! Love the images!
So much greenery as well. I never knew the largest mine in the world is in S.A. ...Africa is such a great place to be.
Have a great day as well!

Thank you Elsie, we are blessed in Africa, I know Kenya is blessed with the wild and beautiful landscape as well, please share Kenya with us more like the city centre you shared yesterday, I love it.
Thank you!

I'll try to do my best!! Take Care!

I want to see some gold from the mine ;)

Check out this video as well, you actually got me to research more about Mponeng mine!

Thank for the video, very interesting!

You are welcome !

That is one hot mine. I think I won't be able to work there.

Those are lovely shots. Where they taken inside a car? There is a blue tinge to the photos and at I think I can figure out some reflections. Thanks for giving us a glimpse of Africa.

I won't be able to work either in a mine in general because my system can't take the heat.

Yes I took the picture from inside the, it was a bit difficult to take a nice shot than theses one, and I can't ask my colleagues to stop since our travelling is work related and not for pleasure.

You've managed to take good shots though. I would not have thought it to be taken taken from inside the care if not the reflection :)

Thanks buddy 😊

Wonderful to turn your drive, into a site seeing trip for steemit @joetunex:)

smile... I try to @dianadee we have beautiful landscape and it is so irresistible not take pictures
