MALAYSIA 60TH INDEPENDENCE DAY : COLORS OF MY COUNTRY- #TEAMMALAYSIACHALLENGE

in #teammalaysiachallenge7 years ago (edited)

As a Malaysian, the month of August is a special month where we celebrate our Independence Day. Schools, offices, government bodies and Universities often commemorates this special month by organizing special events to honor the past sacrifice of our ancestors in making our independence possible.

‘Merdeka’ means ‘Independence’. It is the word that was chanted by our Prime Minister at that time (Tunku Abdul Rahman) for 7 times.

The chanted was followed by the 20,000 crowd as it is echoed at Merdeka Stadium. It is the most beautiful word that people in the Malay land had hope for a long time. Because of that, each individual of the crowd was at their best looking to celebrate the most memorable moment in the history of Malaysia.

This year Independence Day is not the same as the years before. It’s our 60th independence since we were given freedom by the British occupation. It is also the exact month we Malaysian hosting the South East Asian Games (SEA Games), which make us more patriotic than ever.

Prior to this post, I have made a post about SEA Games. You can have a look here:

Some of the best photos from Malaysia SEA Games

31st August 1957 is the date that Malaysian celebrate to remember all the hardship of life, the war, the cry, the discrimination, the loss of life, the ongoing suffering and etc. However, the Independence is truly what we want to celebrate as one nation.

The Journey to Independence and Freedom

Malay land (or now is known Malaysia) was colonized by few foreign powers. I present to you the brief of Malay land history.

Even it is unspoken, it seems that this year demand us Malaysian to bond much stronger together. A lot of things happen which requires us to strengthen our relationship as Malaysian. I guess only Malaysian will get this. Steemit, on the other hand, is a great platform bring us together and in the end have friends throughout the world.

Celebration Pre-Merdeka and Merdeka Challenge by @bitrocker2020

My pre-celebration is full of colors. My Malaysian friend @bitrocker2020 started this challenge to create a post with 'Merdeka' theme. I hope he can consider this post. Even without the challenge, I won't miss showing my Steemit friends how we celebrate our Independence Day.

Let's Start at My Office

Patriotic!

This is the first year I really involve in decorating for Merdeka celebration. I saw a lot of team efforts that deserve to be commended. My office running a 'Merdeka Decoration Challenge' and the result is overwhelmingly creative.

I just can't watch the view goes to waste. Of course, I have to take a picture

My colleagues make this flag (the wall) out of egg crates! Yes! They colored it to perfection!

Exclusive shot for Steemit ^^ lol!

Let's Head Outside! To Some of the Memorable Places Around Kuala Lumpur

Buildings around Kuala Lumpur mostly in the spirit of Merdeka where at least a flag would be displayed. I went out for a tour to catch some of the historical site and end up at Independence Square.

It was here the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag hoisted for the first time at midnight (time: 12:00 AM) on 31 August 1957. Since then, Merdeka Square has been the usual venue for the annual Merdeka Parade (National Day Parade). Source

I have fun watching how people celebrate this special month. In a small unit like my workplace, we work as a team to decorate our building as creative as possible and in the meantime strengthen our relationship. Much can be seen in our daily routine, but adding this activity is much meaningful. Elsewhere, sightings of our proud flag makes me cherished the spirit of patriotism and value of freedom. I hope that everywhere you are, you know that this small country - Malaysia is celebrating its 60th Independence and on 31 August 2017 at the stroke of midnight we will be shouting:

MERDEKA! MERDEKA! MERDEKA!

Jen loves you all..
