Hello everyone!

Two more days to the weekend. I can't wait as I will be taking my short getaway to meow meow city (Kuching, Sarawak) next week. Counting the days for it yayyyy... I am smelling and imagining all the tasty good delicious food and drooling already (patience Kila errr )

Anyway as the old Malay Proverbs says

"Penantian Satu Penyiksaan" in English "Anticipation is a torture"

I will just sit here and wait.. wait and wait some more. Then I remembered that I haven’t shares with you all any recipes this week. So, let me just share with you all the simplest most comforting food to have and easy peasy to make..

Kila’s Smashed Potatoes (Mashed potatoes without gravy)

Even the ingredients is so easy to find in the markets or supermarkets :
Any kind of potatoes you like to use

  1. White Potatoes
  2. Yukon Potatoes ( a bit pricey in most supermarkets)
  3. Sweet Potatoes
  4. Plain tapioca

Today I am using white potatoes since I only got this leftover potatoes at home
2 tbsp of Vinegar
1 cup of Milk (Full cream milk will do)
3 Tbsp Butter (Don’t skimp on the butter… you can put more if you like)
Salt and pepper to taste
Dry herbs (optional) I put dried oregano

That’s it… simple ingredients right

Steps :

a) Handle these potatoes properly okay. Wash it, remove all the dirts and other “alien” and put it in a pot. Add water into the pot at least water level covers potatoes at least an inch. Turn on the fire and boil the potatoes at least 30 minutes to 45 minutes or until tenders. (Tips : Boil the potatoes with cold water, do not “ I REPEAT” Do Not boil the potatoes with warm or direct into boiling water)

b) After potatoes are done cooking, drain the boiled potatoes add vinegar and leave it to rest for 5 minutes. Once its rest, start mashing the potatoes, I prefer using the back of spoon on just use fork or you can use potato smashers if you want.

c) Now, the let the magic begin… while at the very end of mashing these potatoes, add butter and milk separately. Gently fold to combined to preserved fluffiness. Add salt and pepper to taste and lastly add dry herbs for extra ommpphhhh…

d) Enjoy this anytime.


P/s – I purposely boiled the potatoes with its skin because I love the flavors of the potatoes and the textures of the potatoes skins. It contain rich minerals too (I guess)

P/s - You also can make this and keep it in the refrigerator. Yes, you can reheat smashed potatoes. Just put it a microwave for 2 minutes and you will have delicious smashed potatoes.

Yup.. its good to have the skin intact baru banyak khasiat - more nutrition. So what's your favourite potato then? I personally like the less starchy which is the white potatoes. But nightshade veggies are not good if taken a lot as they are suspected to cause inflammation. So we yang banyak allergies have to be careful. The key is moderation... and yes, I saw that terung - brinjal/eggplant for the coming recipe and it is considered as nightshade veggie too. But then again, I might be wrong...
