Accidental Awesome Shot

Some years back, I decided to get on a great adventure on my own. It's took me a month to map out all the stop and route that I would be taking. At the time, no one I know within my tourism circle have made such trip.

I spoke about this great adventure to my tourism friends in Sarawak, but they didn't really know my plans, when I reach Kuching I show them my plans, they got shock. I recalled one of them told me that I am taking a risky route.

I stay couple of nights in Kuching rethink on the plans I've made and trying to convince a local person that can speak dayak and Iban language. Unfortunately, none would do it.

So the next morning I took off as plan. The rest was history. A series of post that I will write about in the future.

What was the trip all about? Its going around Borneo less than 40 days using public transport.

Started of Kota Kinabalu, and end at Kota Kinabalu. It took me 36 days.

Since that adventure, I visit kalimantan, Indonesia few other time for business and travel.

This post is about a photography shot that was taken accidentally by my business partner Laura. I brough her to Pontianak to sort out some business deal.

On our free days, I told her let go to tanjung puting. We took a short flight, hop and overnight on a boat .
The journey itself was an awesome experience , simple but true to the spirit of adventure.

The shot took place when I was walking back to the boat and I was way behind everyone else, suddenly out of nowhere a female orang utan went down from a true, climb the walkway and was in between the rest and me. I was a little bit stunned. Don't want to show any fear, I decide to show respect, slowly sitted down and not making a move except putting my head down, she get closer and sit's right in front of me.

My friend took a photo and the rest was history.

My family ask me if I had a conversation with her, because from the photo, it seems we were having a conversation.

I will always cherished this moment, it is my first time an orang utan gets very close to me.

There were also moment but not photographs, she holds my leg and hand not wanting to let go, but eventually she did.

Orang utan is a beautiful creature. I hope this post creates awareness for orang utan conservation. They deserve the best human being should gives.

Another accidental shot but I think is awesomely pretty is the following. So here is how the story goes, I was ask to inspect a resort at mantanani island , kota Belud Sabah. I have no plans to dive nor to take a quick dip. All I wanted to do was finish task as I was there for an overnight trip.

Late afternoon, their dive crew started talking to me and ask me about marine conversation, it's a subject that I was heavily involved in when I was heading a team for WWF in Semporna, Sabah. They insisted for me see their dive site and recommended what they should do. I was like "dammit" as the sea is always extremely tempting. LOL.

So I when for a sunset dive. When I surface. The sky was gloriously beautiful, it was a beautiful sunset. I quickly get on the boat. Trying not to miss that awesome moment, frantically trying to find my phone and BOOMMMM... That was the shot.. A shot I will always remember.. It was the first shot in my life that brought tears, looking at it, I said to myself, .... This is majestic.

Enjoy it as much as I do. I hope when you see this photo, you are able to capture that feeling I had when I took this photo.
