Curb your Internet - There are so many things you can already do right on the Steem Blockchain!
a year ago there was only 1 app. Now you can do almost EVERYTHING on the blockchain!
Hey Steemians!
This month has come with good news after good news for the Steem Blockchain. There's been so many development of 3rd party apps built on Steem that honestly i feel like i can spend the whole day and not leave the blockchain. It used to be that there's only Steemit. The "central waterhole" for all things steem. But as we all know, Steem wants to be more than just a single website that users come to post and get paid when other people liked it. Our very own @ned envisioned that Steem will allow "a hundred thousand apps and businesses to build on top on and thrive". It seems that becoming more and more a possibility with each passing day!
Here's are list of things you can do right now with your Steem account!

1. Blog! Blog! Blog!
I have to start of course with Steemit! Want to blog about your interest? your life? rant about your pet peeves? Anything goes! With limited HTML and MarkDown functionality, the text box is your canvas. As the first app to be using the Steem Blockchain, you'd find that most users congregate here. Imagine a "Blogspot" on steem. That's what Steemit is.
2. Post pictures from your phone!
Nowadays everyone is addicted to snap a photo of their meal, snap a photo of them with friends, their pet, their vacation as it's happening. And what if you wanna get paid doing exactly that? With the steem blockchain, you can.
With Steepshot, we can now "Capture and Share the World's Moments" and get paid in Steem. I don't know about you but heck yeah I'll do just that! All you have to do is just download their app either on Android of iOS, sign in with your Steem account. And off you go! The app is extremely user-friendly with familiar user interface that frankly you wont even need to learn anything. You already know what to do.
3. Watch and Upload Video
Yes, you dont need to go to Youtube to post your videos.. just do it here.. Lauded as "Youtube's alternative", i think this app will potentially kill it.
Just like Steemit and Steepshot, you not only can earn by uploading videos, you can earn by upvoting and commenting too! More and more content creators are either born or jump to Dtube every day. So if you haven't heard of it. It's time you check it out. The interface is familiar and the video loads as fast as regular Youtube. Also, no Adpocalyse bullshit..
4. Livestream
Yeap, you can stream videos LIVE and people can upvote your stream.
DLive isn't just a platform where you can stream though. You can upload and watch videos on there too. I like the idea of being able to upload and watch videos too on top of stream because i'm not such a big fan of streaming myself, maybe because to dont play that much games. Still, now you can livestream on the Steem Blockchain, how cool is that?
5. Contribute to the Open Source community
One can say that the Open Source mindset is what made the internet possible. Open Source is what powers innovation, Linux, GIMP, HTTP are all open source. Bitcoin is open-source, even Steem is also open source. It was always the notion that those who contribute to open source are doing it for no money, maybe donations at most. But there is an app on steem that changes the game..
You can contribute to any of the listed existing open source project within Utopian.io. You can even propose new projects and get volunteers to contribute to it! Utopian.io has been intergrated with open source platforms like Github and Crowdin so that you can link with your account.
Development, Suggestions, Translations, Documentation, Tutorials and so much more are welcome on the platform, of which people can support you for your work.
6. "Share knowledge and better understand the world."
I can see huge potential in this platform. Ask, YahooAnswers, StackOverflow, even Quora is in need of a disruption. I can attest to the fact and asking and answering questions are addictive. Previous websites monetize on the addiction to sell ads and make money off people. Imagine if an expert on a subject can benefit from answering questions about things they know and study - not only by the satisfaction from passing knowledge, but actual reward for doing so.
Musing.io is just that, Ask a question, answer questions. Learn and make some steem while you're at it!
7. Listen to Music and Podcasts
Just like Dtube or videos, Dlive of streams... Dsound lets you hear and upload audio on the Steem blockchain and get upvotes when people like it.
Musicians, Podcasters, audiophiles.. these are for you.
8. (Bonus) Scout for Models!!
You heard me right! You can scout for models or anyone in the modelling industry using the Steem Blockchain!!
Becscouted.com is a front end website with Steem Integration that lauds itself as "The photography community that rewards high quality content". Damn right there's a reward!
Disruption can come to many unexpected places.. The photography industry might just need one by the Blockchain technology. Models and photographers can now be rewarded just by filling up their portfolios and will even be scouted (hehe) for more potential jobs.

Conclusion
There's actually many many more! and i can guarantee you more are in the making! Everyone should watch out for what the Steem Blockchain is about to become soon. Things are only going to get better from here on out. just with these few sites alone you can spend your whole day on the Steem Blockchain already!

Hey @awesomianist! Great list, man! I think most of us are surprised at number 8 on the list :P
It just shows what the steem blockchain is capable of and it's still in the early stages. The potential is huge.
What sort of application do you think would be huge or maybe that you would like to see on the steem blockchain?
Without a doubt it would be any platforms within the content web. Where people can support each other and especially exceptional content creators.
One prevailing issue with reward-based content social/content platform is that people are less prone to participate if they have to fork out money from their own wallet. That is what the Steem whitepaper calls the "cognitive cost".
Even so, there are people who are willing to support brands and personality that they are a fan of. Even if out of their own pockets. So much so that one such platforms that facilitates the "supporting" of content creators - Patreon, reportedly turned over $150 million, profiting $7.5 million off a 5% cut. That's from people who are dead-set on supporting the content creators they like. Those that "pays" the cognitive cost.
Imagine the literal floodgate of support unleashed from to content creators when anyone from anywhere can give an upvote to the same content creators, when there is no barrier of doing so. No need for credit cards, and then signing up KYC, and all the hassle and what not.
People who argue that its unsustainable are missing the point. It's true, content is powered by ads. That is true since the very first printing tech was invented. But if anyone has been paying attention, ads are no longer what they are used to. The trend of advertising has gone more and more social with the birth of Influencer marketing. Ads are possible in a Steem powered platform, and it wont be long (2-3 years maybe less) before we start seeing content creators incorporating ads in their content. Something like the "Sponsored Videos" we see today.
Without even looking at SMT, we can already how the above model is going to cause a feedback loop of "Content creators come into Steem because money, users come into steem because content creators(also because money), Ad companies come into steem because users are on steem, which brings more content creators into steem". It's not too impossible for that to happen.
When fanboys say "Steem is definitely going to take over the content web, if not the web itself".. This is one the ways it can happen.
In line with that, one app I hope to see succeeding on the Steem Blockchain will be a form of crowdfunding/kickstarter platfrom using both donations (transfer) and upvotes. Charity initiative, startup attempts, all may one day be potentially funded with Steem in a crowdfunding fashion. One app that is trying to do that is Fundition.io. The app looks very rudimentary right now. But we'll see how it pans out over time.
Didn’t realize about the last one! Haha nice line up :)
There's actually more! I might need to do a part-2!
I will keep an eye for the part 2 :)
