What makes a good apology?

We all need to learn how to apologize after all, no one is perfect. We all mess up. We're human, and it's not always easy to get along with everyone all the time.

Sometimes we hurt people's feelings without intending to. Because we have the capability to hurt people through our behaviors and actions, whether these are intentional or not.

Apologies can be difficult, even awkward because we are dealing with personal feelings but it will help us repair and improve our relationships with others.

We all want to set the right thing, if someone is disappointed with our actions. Therefore we need to apologize and explain that we are very sorry about our actions.

We need to ask for permission to apologize. Because when they grant permission they will want to hear what we have to say.

Let them know that we realize and how much we regret what we did. Express that we wish, we could turn back time and change what we said or did.

Be careful not to say anything along the lines of "If I hurt you, I'm sorry" or "I'm sorry if you think I hurt your feelings, but"…

The words "if" or "but" like it put the blame on the other person for feeling hurt instead of on the person who committed the offense. An apology is not our chance to give excuses for what we did.

Sometimes saying "I'm sorry" fixes everything right away. Other times, it might take a while for someone to get past feeling upset. We may need to give the other person some time.

Actually it is not easy for them to forgive us. They will wonder if it is true or not, even if the apology is our true feeling

Even after we say we're sorry, we might still feel bad about what we said or did, but we can feel good about apologizing, fixing the mistake, or making up our mind to do better
