My First Steemit Workshop as a Presenter

I was given the honor to give a talk on Thursday. I went not within the capacity of a teacher but a Steemian. You see, it was a Steemit workshop and I was asked to speak about how to use Steemit. The community in Sabah is relatively new and it was a huge pleasure to help out. A big shout out to @danieldoughty for organizing it. It must have not been easy.

Personally, I had a blast! It was great sharing about Steemit to a highly motivated group. Nothing makes a teacher happier than a highly motivated group of students. The questions were great and I am sure many have shared in the @teammalaysia the different topics that were addressed.

As much as many mentioned how much they have learnt from the session, I too have learnt quite a few lessons too.

Personal Experience

There are not many things about Steemit that are definite. Often, there is more than one way to write a post, engage or to earn payouts. This required me to share from personal experience. Everything learnt from @jerrybanfield and Google was shared. I remember sharing one important point on getting started. I mentioned that the initial few posts may prove to be difficult, but it gets easier as time passes. This is especially true once you have discovered which posts works.

It is especially difficult to provide a one-size-fits-all solution, especially since I am still on this journey. Many will go through different challenges, but I do hope that we will all end up doing great on Steemit in our own respective niche. In addition, the one important thing learnt from that sharing session was that there were many things that I am not aware of. This included the different ways to format posts. I just went with what works, this is definitely something that I will look into in future workshops.

Presentation matters

One interesting conversation happened at the end when many have left. I was told that many were wondering how the whole platform worked and where does the money come from. Some who were present assumed that this was a scam. I supposed this is typical as there have been so many of such scams going on.

The conversation ended with an advice to not screw up as many were there based on trust. As such, at lot rides on the presenter's performance as we could encourage or discourage any potential Steemians. No pressure there. As such, it is important for me to put on a better show in the future. Perhaps, more jokes?

Steemit is one of those platforms that can be difficult to explain, especially when we talk about its potential. However, I love @teamamalaysia's strong focus on community projects. Yes, we all want to be paid well for our work, but what happens after that? The presence of a goal to help others with money generated is good enough to dispel any doubt that the organizers and the platform itself has so much potential for good.

The Future

I am looking forward to see what this community will do. A second introductory workshop or session should happen soon, I assume. That being said, I hope to see more presenters who will share their work and talents on this platform. With how things are going, I will not be surprise if we end up supporting the education of needy children or even start running workshops for hungry college students who can use some extra income.

Once we have grow the numbers, perhaps we can hold Steemfest in Kota Kinabalu? I mean, imagine interacting with other Steemians from all around the globe and enjoying the awesome view of sun and sea.
