Way Back Challenge — #TeamGood Style

in #teamgood8 years ago

This is gonna be fun, but I’m not a fan of week-long challenges, so I’ll do this in one post. I also share some of @sircork’s concerns around using copyrighted material in something I’m hoping will make money, so I’ll be donating 100% of the rewards from this post to @youarehope and @tarc.

That said, let’s do some reminiscing…

Why not start with some Bohemian Rhapsody, a la Wayne’s World:

The Way Back Challenge

There seem to be two of these throwback-themed challenges:

#tvshowwaybackchallenge (initiated by @saffisara) and the #musicwaybackchallenge (started by @greek-trail)

@enginewitty was kind enough to think of me when he did a shout out for Star Wars. Oh, and kind enough to donate the proceeds of his posts to help @gmuxx with travel expenses for the upcoming #theWritersBlock meetup.

Yeah, Witty! Go #TeamGood!

We’ll get to that Star Wars thing in a minute. But first…

Let’s talk music.

How far back you wanna go?

I remember groovin’ to Michael Jackson in preschool, the Top Gun and Footloose soundtracks in elementary, Guns n’ Roses and Pearl Jam in middle school… Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Nirvana…

There were nights I sang Sarah McLaughlin’s Fumbling Towards Ecstacy over and over and over again. Tori Amos, too.

Metallica’s Black Album belongs to a chapter of my life, but I think I’ll choose a song from The Crow soundtrack to share with you.

Which brings us to our next section, film.

I couldn’t bring myself to use the video of this song that has clips from the movie ‘cause it’s still so sad to me, but I loved the Crow when it came out. My dark side was definitely out to play in my teenage years.

TV and Film

DISNEY

I credit Disney with a fair amount of delight in my life, and some mental issues.

They gave me fairytales I wanted to be real and songs I sang in the shower on a regular basis. The “sweep you off your feet” romances set me up for a lifetime of disappointment (thanks, Disney), but I’ll always have this little girl inside who is still a princess.

Once Upon a Dream, from Sleeping Beauty, via Youtube

Sleeping Beauty was a particular favourite, because the princess is a forest dweller and raised by fairies. I love magic!

It’s possible I identified with Aurora too much, because I’m still disappointed that no one has waltzed with me. Where's my ballroom scene with the big flowing dress and the love-struck dancing around on a cloud? I feel like life isn't complete without it. (I wish I could say I was joking.) 😂

And yes, I sing in the forest. That’s not weird—Disney princesses do it all the time.

TV

I didn’t watch a ton of TV growing up, but I remember The Young Riders. I got right into this western series based on the lives of Pony Express riders. Had a crush on a few of them. ;)

The music is fittingly cheesy for the era, but I loved these characters and the trouble they got into. Riding across the country on a horse felt like freedom every time I tuned into the show.

And of course, STAR WARS!

Like @enginewitty, I grew up with the original trilogy: A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and—the one that had the biggest impact for me—Return of the Jedi.

Princess Leia was perhaps my biggest idol growing up, and a healthy balance for the often-helpless Disney princess. Leia kicked ass and took names.

And she had a sexy rebel smuggler who could fly a ship like no one else. Yum!

Here’s one of my favourite scenes, the speeder bike chase with Leia and Luke.

Love those big trees. Funny how slow this seems compared to todays’ films.

That's All Folks!

Okay, enough tripping down memory lane for me. Hope you enjoyed that!

YAY!!! Snook approved. Must be good. ;) 💖

Thank you so much, Katrina-Ariel! This means the world to me and to TARC. :-)

Thanks for all you do! Take care of those pups. 💖

That is the only song from The Cure I can even recognize and only because it was on that soundtrack. One of the best compilations ever. Good choice!

It was such a great soundtrack. Thanks for the memories. Here, have a rock star. ;)

💖 Love love love 💖

I was reading the part on Disney movies and agreeing whole heartedly, when my big German Shepherd shoved his nose in my face. I thought then how my Prince charming might not fit the exact parameters set out by Disney, for instance I'm happily married but I'm pretty sure my dog is the hero in my life. There is just nobody else so brave and charming :D

Okay I absolutely love that! Yay for dogs and finding heroes in places you might not expect them to be. 💖

I watched every clip and listened to all the music and re-lived all the moments they conjured up.

Good choices!

This post is Young Rider approved (TinMan and I took a vote.)

And thank you very much for the consideration of @YouAreHOPE for your post rewards. We are grateful to you for that thoughtful gesture as well!

So my question for you is...

Hover bike in the woods, or cross country equine freedom?

I love this photo! Thanks for taking the time to watch, and read, and remember with me. And for everything you do, and have done, to make this world better. As for the question, it would depend on the company, but I'd probably be more comfortable on a hover bike. lol! I like being with horses on the ground... maybe with more time in a saddle I'd change my mind. 💖

Either you or someone who valued your post shared this post on Pimp Your Post Thursday in the Steemit Ramble discord. Looking forward to you visiting us again.

I 💖 PYPT. :)

WOW...pretty much same styles of music artist i liked ...this list is the most awesome but apart from your list .... i need to add Led Zepplin ......" When the the levee breaks " and Black Sabbath "Paranoid"......Oh Yeah :))

I remember groovin’ to Michael Jackson in preschool, the Top Gun and Footloose soundtracks in elementary, Guns n’ Roses and Pearl Jam in middle school… Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, Nirvana…

Definitely Led Zeppelin. ;) Thanks for reading. 💖

Your welcome....Led Zeppelin will never die :))

I love your music choices 💚

Thank you! 💖 This was fun. :)

Thank you Princess... And sorry I have not been able to get around to all my Aliiance buddies lately like I usually do. Iam kind of experimenting seeing how to balance out my OCDish and incessant Commenting/Curating with my VP . So it may take a little while to 'iron' that out ;)

Anyway, yeah I grew up on the original Star Wars too. For some reason I liked Empire Strikes Back the best. Something about going to that forest and meeting Yoda :)

Yoda is pretty awesome, for sure. I hear you about comments/VP... I've had to take a little step back this week as well. Take care of you!
