Sunday Blues - Some Astrophotos

in #teamaustralia6 years ago (edited)

I'm about 50% of the way through part 4 of the astrophotography series, and to be quite frank I'm not feeling motivated atm to put in the 6 hours needed to complete the article (for what seems not much interest). So while I'm feeling a bit demotivated, I dug out a couple of favorite photo's that I have taken over the years. Please enjoy!

Comet Hale-Bopp, from Galena Pass, Idaho, April 3, 1997. It was so cold I lost feeling in most of my face and hands!!

The rest of these were all taken from my backyard in Brisbane, Australia.

Jupiter not long after being Occulted (another word for eclipsed) by the moon. You can click on the image for a larger version.

The next one is Jupiter with the Great Red Spot (which has actually shrunk quite a bit over the last century).

Here is a spiral galaxy in the Constellation of Fornax called NGC1365.

Here is the Cat's Paw emission Nebula in Scorpius (NGC 6334).

Finally another comet photo, this was Comet C/2015 ER61 (PANSTARRS) from last year.

Great pictures, I especially like Jupiter behind the Moon. Really puts the solar system in perspective. Keep up the great work!

What did you find amazing?

These are incredible images @terrylovejoy The Comet Hale-Bopp captured in Idaho is spectacular. I'm sure you didn't regret suffering extreme cold to be rewarded with this memorable shot, although it must have been very uncomfortable. You could have ended up with frost bite. The Cat's Paw shape in the sky is fascinating. I haven't seen that before.

Thank you @trudeehunter that shot was taken under very extreme conditions I was so cold (I think it was around 10F or -12c) that I had the car running with the heater to warm my hands every few minutes. It was almost impossible to control the guiding of the camera with gloves on so I had to chance no gloves. The comet was absolutely beautiful to the naked eye however, and I won't forget the view. I got a few shots that night, maybe I do a post about comet Hale-Bopp.

Your dedication to photography was very well rewarded with these superb shots @terrylovejoy Just as well you had the car heater to keep the circulation going in your hands. It would have been so very frustrating to see this phenomenal sight and yet not be able to get decent photos. I think many people would be interested in hearing more about comet Hale-Bopp. The vastness and majestic beauty of our universe is very difficult to confine to a few words.

I am one of the Astronomy lovers and also a lecturer of Astronomy at the University in my City. I really like your photos about Comet Hale-Bopp. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you @darmawanbuchari , which city do you teach?
