Update On Petition For AUD Denominated Wirex Bitcoin Cards - Your Card Is Just A Signature Away!

in #teamaustralia7 years ago (edited)

We're pushing for a bitcoin powered card for AUD transactions & your signature will help. Spare 2 minutes...

Hi again #teamaustralia. I'm posting an update on our push for an Australian bitcoin powered Wirex card.

After the petition launch two days ago, there was an outpouring of interest.

Since then I've shared the online petition on Facebook, I've emailed the link to friends all over #australia, contacted an educator in the field of financial planning, emailed @andyhoffman and reached out to @sgtreport and @x22report

As a reminder, here's the spiel:

There’s precious little in terms of choice when it comes to “debanking” options for Australians. For those unaware of the term, debanking refers to an individual’s ability to remove themselves as clients of the banking system and all the restrictions that it entails.
For now, the majority of Australians are tied to a system of employment whereby currency is earned, taxed and deposited into a bank account but there are options regarding what those funds can then be used for.

Wirex is a company that offers a card akin to a normal bank card with the important difference being that it is able to be funded via bitcoin. This is an important feature as it provides the ability to free ourselves from bank issued cards when transacting.

Unfortunately, Wirex currently only provides support for USD, GBP and EUR accounts which means that transactions made on these cards in any other currency attract a 3% currency conversion fee. This is a cost prohibitive issue.

This petition is to illustrate to Wirex the level of demand for Australian Dollar support in the hope that they will introduce a card denominated in AUD. This would provide a significant improvement in transaction freedom by allowing Australians to convert their earnings into bitcoin and then essentially use that to spend with a card.

Unfortunately this has all only translated into 12 signatures!

...despite the original steemit post receiving nearly 80 upvotes. It would be great if all who upvoted could also vote via the petition. Without a strong push from those who'd like to have usable, spendable bitcoin sitting in their back pocket, this won't become a reality.

It'd only take a moment to pass a pitch on to one or two of your friends or colleagues in the hope that they too see the benefits and sign the petition.

Please resteem and share this link as the more support we can get, the more chance of this becoming a reality for us.

Hi David, thanks for the support. The petition is at the "show your support here!" link in the post. Have emailed you the link too. Thanks again for distributing 👍🍻

Come on #teamaustralia and everyone else, please sign the petition!

That's the way @cryptodog. Sound the horn!

Thanks @moreish88. We need to share this far and wide, resteem, email, verbally...

@tomm has posted a great example of what choke hold a reliance on bank products has on us.

A bill has been introduced to ammend Section 981(b) of title 18, United States Code, by accommodating the freezing bank accounts of persons arrested for offenses involving the movement of money across international borders.

See here.

Worth resteeming I believe.

Thanks I will sign. I've only found one AUD card that is Bitcoin only and can be used in Australia only. Will check this one out

I'd be interested in your card research @shellyduncan. Have you had much success with this other card? Thanks for the support.

Will reply with some further info over the weekend.. Or might post.. bit Manic busy today but haven't forgotten :)

Hey,
I just signed the petition "wirexapp.com: Introduce Wirex Bitcoin Bank Cards Denominated In Australian Dollars" and wanted to see if you could help by adding your name.
Our goal is to reach 100 signatures and we need more support. You can read more and sign the petition here:

Thanks!

Thanks mate! 👍

@nolnocluap any update on whats happening. It might be wise now that more Aussies have joined @teamaustralia, we might want to see sirknight push his weight in supporting another post to get people to sign the petition.

Hi @stocka. We are sitting at a humble 24 signatures so the progress is slow and hard. I've been linking to the petition in the footer of every thread I post along with my teamaustralia image and think that we might get some traction if all members did this.

I agree that some weight from @ausbitbank, @centerlink and @sirknight would go a long way. A reference in the witness posts would help too. I'll see if I can get their interest in discord. Any other ideas on how we can get their attention?

Many thanks.

Just getting them should help, I'm thinking people that aren't in Australia should sign it. do a proposal post, about getting people outside Australia as travelers would be able to use wirex to pay with on their holiday.

💡A light bulb monent right there! Targeting the travel market is a good avenue to explore. Thank you again mate, I'll look at tagging a target post in travel.
