Yay¡¡ 100 Years of Income Tax

in #tax7 years ago

It's almost that time again.

You guessed it.

TAX TIME!!

Well, I know this isn't really a true statement; it's always tax time.

I'm so excited about this year's taxes¡ This year marks the 100th year of paying federal income tax in Canada. And, as I learned today, Canada has a tax for almost every letter of the alphabet so I really can be exited about taxes all year long¡

Let's let "¡" be understood as sarcasm. I can't find the backwards question mark.

Now these aren't even close to all the taxes. They are just the taxes a regular person might pay from day to day - most likely without even realizing.

Airline surcharge Tax
Airline Fuel Tax
Airport Maintenance Tax

Workers Compensation Tax

From this list I found, we are missing J, K, N, O, Q, U, X, Y, and Z. But, there are at least duplicates in every letter except 'B', so I thinks they're all covered. I'm sure you can add more in the comments to fill in what's missing.

So, with this being the celebration of the 100th year of paying income tax in Canada. I was just poking around a little on the internet for some info.

Here are some random facts I though were pretty interesting. Try not to get too mad and throw your computer across the room as you realize how out of control it's gotten in only 100 years.

  • The initial "Income War Tax Act" was only 11 pages long
  • The current "Income Tax Act" is over 3000 pages long
  • This 3000+ pages contains over 1 million words
  • The Income War Tax Act was only supposed to be temporary
  • When the war was over, many called for its removal, but it never was. This, theoretically, made the Act illegal
  • It was only supposed to be the provinces, and not the Federal Government, who had jurisdiction for direct taxation according to the British North America Act
  • It would take 59 hours for someone to read the current Income Tax Act at an average speed. This is not including completely understanding what is in the Act
  • If you read the current Act for 1 hour a night, It would take you almost 2 months to complete.
  • The Income War Tax Act very clearly defines the word 'person'. "Person - means any individual or person and any syndicate, trust, association or other body and any body corporate, and the heirs, executors, administrators, curators and assigns or other legal representatives of such person."
  • The Income Tax Act does not define the word person. That is left up to the Interpretations Act, which does not even come close to defining the word person to the extent that the Income War Tax Act did. "person - included a corporation" - THAT'S IT. To include one thing is to exclude all others.
  • The initial tax rate was only 4%
  • The tax did not start until a single individual made over $1,500 and married people (or single people with children) made over $3,000
  • 2% was added for income over $6,000 but less than $10,000
  • 5% was added for income over $10,000 but less than $20,000
  • 8% was added for income over $20,000 but less than $30,000
  • 10% for $30k to $50k
  • 15% for $50k to $100k
  • 15% is now the minimum federal tax rate in Canada up to $46,605 not including the provincial income tax rates
  • 25% for income exceeding $100k
  • $1,500 in 1917 is the equivalent of $31,878 today
  • $3,000 in 1917 is the equivalent of $63,756 today
  • $50k in 1917 is the equivalent of about $1,000,000 today
  • The average Canadian now pays 43% tax
  • The average Canadian pays only about 35% on basic necessities

What the fuck happened?

The lowest income earners in Canada now pay the same interest rate as someone who made the equivalent of $1-2 million in 1917. This is also not including the other taxes that have been imposed along the way. I have so many questions, I don't even know where to start to get real answers - besides answering myself.

How is this sustainable? (It's not)

How is anyone supposed to live like this? (Through debt, and modernized slavery)

How is this freedom? (It's not)

Do we really need all the services these taxes provide? (No)

Isn't there a better way to do this by now? (Yes)

If a tax is someone's civil duty to pay for things like roads and healthcare, how can it also be a punishment for things like liquor, cigarettes, gas, electricity? How can tax be a good and a bad thing at the same time? (It can't. Cognitive Dissonance)

Where can I cancel my contract? (Contract?)

It always seems to come back to that for me. Where did we agree to this? Where is the physical evidence we are required to pay any taxes on anything? I really can't understand how that is overlooked by so many people. If I can look up on Google the 100-year-old Income War Tax Act in 30 seconds with the transcription of the politicians discussing this before it is passed, why can't I look up where the proof is that any laws made by anyone else apply to any human being. If you find it, please tell me.

Most people would say, "It's the law, you have to."

This is not evidence. It would not be evidence in a court of law either based on the way the legal system works. Just writing something down does not make it apply to others without their consent.

If it did, than anything I write is hear by declared to be law. My two dogs, and the cat, are in agreement with these laws, thus proving it applies to everyone. No need for your consent, it's a social contract.

Law 1 - Every person shall upvote all posts made by @stephen.king989 with a minimum of 15% voting power tax. If you do not have a vote slider, 100% will be required.

Law 2 - Failure to comply with law 1 will require each offending person to be punished by voluntarily sending 2 SBD 'no vote tax' to @stephen.king989 on or 1 day after post payout for each no voting offence.

Law 3 - Failure to comply with law 1 and law 2 will require each offending person to pay a compounding interest taxation fee charge at 137% a day, until the full 2 SBD and interest is paid.

Law 4 - Questioning the above laws will require a 'I have questions tax' to be applied at 15 SBD per question, which will be sent to @stephen.king989 for review prior to asking the question. Refunds will not be granted for denied questions. You're question will be denied.

Does this sound stupid yet?

I thought so too.

But, it's now the law so you'd better do what the law says - It's your duty and you're bound by the social contract.

End of tax rant. Happy 100th Anniversary¡

Its not just Canada. Its all over the world I guess. In UK taxable products have gone up sky high in the recent years. I think this is the reason why governments don't like Crypto or any related platforms. Crypto has compromised their ability to charge tax for each and every service or products we consume.

Forcing the world into a cashless society using the blockchain of their choosing can also turn out very badly if we aren't careful. Blockchains have the potential to affect and change every aspect of today's life. Hopefully, it's going to be for the better.

The only evidence there is.....violence.
