Mom's Favorite Chicken Lomi by Tony's Mami
Lomi is a famous Filipino chicken noodle soup. It is believed to be an influence we got from trading with the Chinese people in the past. Lomi is made of chicken, noodles, fresh eggs, chicken liver and vegetables.
Lomi happens to be one of my mom's comfort food. She would always ask for lomi when the weather is cold or whenever she just craves for it. We don't just buy her any lomi, we buy her a chicken lomi from her favorite restaurant, Tony's Mami.
Tony's Mami has been in Tacloban City for a long time. My mom says she has been eating there since she was in college, before I was born. It could be that the restaurant have been there even longer. I always pass by this restaurant because it's in the busy part of downtown Tacloban City.
There is always an old man outside the store, I assume he is Tony. I never asked the restaurant people if he is. Maybe one day I will. I often eat here because I love their Chinese food like siomai and siopao.
The store is always busy just like the street that it's at. Some of their patrons are the kids from the nearby Chinese school. They drop by to get some ice cream because they sell the famous Aice ice cream.
You can imagine from the pictures that they don't have a parking space. You'll have to park nearby because the street barely has a sidewalk even. They have a 1 car parking slot infront but that's occupied, perhaps by the owner.
The place is run by a Chinese family. They take the orders, serve the guests, clean the tables and everything is run by the members.
They speak both Chinese and Filipino. Their patrons are also a mix of Filipinos and Chinese.
The place is small and it's always full of customers.
Here is their menu. They quite have a number of items on it and it comes with very affordable prices. Most of them are just 100 pesos and below or barely $2 each.
As soon as I was seated, they gave me a pitcher of water, a glass, and a pair of spoon and fork. I ordered my mom's favorite lomi, this was lunch. Like my mom, I love their lomi, too.
Here's my order. A beautiful bowl of lomi.
Here's a close-up.
Look at the beautiful knots of the noodles.
Then all the noodles are gone because I ate all of it. I was gonna sip all this soup but I didn't because I put chili sauce in it and it was so spicy! But I did get some 3 spoons of that spicy soup and it was amazing. I loved my lomi lunch, it the same tasty, yummy lomi my mom has been into for years. I love their consistency of delivering the same good food.
I bought some steam buns (siopao) for take out after I finished my meal. I wanted them for my afternoon snacks.
I am glad I dropped by at Tony's Mami earlier today. I am proud to share this in Tasteem as a good place to enjoy noodles and many other things here in Tacloban City. Drop by this place if you are nearby and experience the tales of this place.
