Affordable and very local taste at a tourist spot

Picture below is the historical site of Hang Lipo(pronounce as Hung Lee Pooh), Malay history has it the Chinese Princess married to as the fifth wife of then Malaccan king, and the entire hill has been given to the princess as a gift during their marriage, and it's now knowns as Bukit Cina(Chinese hill which held cemetery for more then 1200 Chinese coprses... Jeeeeesasss). Wait! Aren't this a restaurant review post?! You're absolutely correct! When you go on a historical study trip in Melaka, you wouldn't drive around too much for the fact that it's hard to find designated parking space.

If you're on a budget history study trip in Melaka, one last thing you would wanna spend is expansive and less tasty traveller's food at tour guide restaurant. Generally, Melaka food is spicy, sweet and ultra flavorful. it's very hard to find "localize" price tag too, since the entire Melaka town is being tourist heaven grade, going anywhere would blow your wallet if you don't speak their language.

I'm aware this is a cheap and fabulous section, I am going to introduce you a place that have a choice to eat affordably and comfortably and not scarifying tastiness, which is Selvam Restaurant, and authentic local Indian restaurant. Just incase if you're wondering, I have another #tasteem post few days ago at the same road.

For a piece of Thosai, it's only RM1.20, and that's like less than half a dollar. You can have 2 of these and get yourself filled for the whole morning. It's made of fermented rice flour. You can smell the rice fragrant from it, and it's lightly sour and a dash of sweetness from the rice flour. Is it cheap? No not really. It's just because that's their usual price tag for this type of staple food. Easy to go down, less processed, tasty and healthy! You can order Masala Thosai, and you'll get different kind of herbs being mixed with the Indian pancake. You can choose a butter version, and or egg omelet version, it's totally up to you if you want to customize it. Or you can go crazy by asking them to add onions, eggs, butter, sugar all together at the same time.

Here's my egg omelet version of Thosai, you can order from them by calling it Thosai Telur, and they will understand it's egg Thosai. Accompany with my breakfast is a dash of shaved coconut in spices, and a dash of blended sardines.

LazyMom ordered this plate of Masala Thosai, which included with different spices in it. I don't hate it, but the crazy spice mixture will make me go headache, especially the pepper in it will make me sneeze.

And this little guy had his Roti Chennai with egg. It's the Indian bread, it tasted like pastry and you will not find it difficult to have this kind of food for breakfast.

Once again, Melaka isn't too big, especially town area are all within 10km radius. We finishes our breakfast for RM20.60, 4 pastries, 2 milk tea, 2 Milo chocolate malt drinks before we head to St.Peter's for Sunday mass. Very affordable breakfast for budget traveler.

Once again, I would like to mention, it's not "cheap" food, it is just because it is that price and it is affordable for most. You can choose to have a happy meal that cost you RM8, and 3 person already blown my budget. But a happy meal breakfast you can call it cheap, but in Selvam Restaurant, it's affordable and they serve real food. Picture is about 500meters from Selvam and everywhere is within walking distance, and would lead you straight back to Bukit Cina.
