Fifteen (A Tasteem review)
When you are travelling it can be difficult to find a nice place to eat that isn't too expensive. I guess this is where guides like Tasteem will come in handy, to give a local experience (or a tourist's version!) on the restaurants in the area.
From the outside, Fifteen isn't a very enticing looking place to eat, but we did catch a glimpse of the interior, and so we decided to take our chances!
Inside
As you can see, the inside is done up like an Italian bistro or something similarly inspired. It has lots of nice black and white photos on the walls and the ambience is quite cosy!
There is a second lower level, as the floor seating is not very spacious. I had described the place as cosy, and that is not just in atmosphere, but also in physical dimensions!
The Menu
The menu is prety stock standard bistro food for England. Lots of favourites like sausages and chips, Jacket potatoes with various fillings, ham and eggs or fish and chips.
There was also a decent enough selection on the childrens menu, a definite must if you don't want crazy hunger tantrums when travelling with kids!
The specials board was much more enticing though, we had already had our fill from the past few days of having ham or sausages. At least for the adults, the kids still enjoyed it!
The Food
My wife ordered the lasagne from the specials board, which came with an assortiment of salad, garlic bread and chips. Oddly enough, pretty much everything here in England comes with a side of chips. She liked the lasagna very much, it was a good sort of meaty and just cheesy enough.
From the other specials board (not the one that I took a photo of), I got the salmon and broccoli patties. Again with a side of salad and chips, with a bowl of coleslaw. The main event (the salmon and broccoli patties) was actually quite good, and I have to keep in mind adding broccoli the next time I make salmon cakes!
The kiddies had sausages with (you guessed it) chips, and baked beans. Baked beans is pretty big here on kids meals, its not something that we tend to eat at home, so it wasn't really a hit there. However, you can't go wrong with sausage and chips! They were also really kind to give us two complete kids plates for the price of one!
Coffee
Oddly enough for an Italian (or Italian inspired) place, the coffee was quite terrible. Don't come here for coffee....
Final Thoughts
On the whole, this was good solid food for a decent price. When you are travelling this is what you are looking for when you are stopping for lunch. Good food but on a budget. This fit the bill nicely, and the service was friendly as well.
I'm sorry to say the coffee was really not up to standard though. Don't get it here, find a different place if you are looking for coffee....

I thought in a Postmodern world hotmail was dead? Lol!
Namaste, JaiChai
Ha ha, Yes, I didn't notice that!
On the other hand, I still use a hotmail address as my main public facing email. Other stuff I use other email providers as required..
Everything looks spectacular!
I wouldn't go that far! But it was filling and satisfying! And not too expensive!
We live off chips in Britain @bengy - it's out staple diet. Wake up in the morning Toast ❌ Cereals ❌ Chips ✔️ then it's chips for lunch, chips for evening meal and then after an evening out visiting social places of musical interest - it's 2am chips. Sometimes we vary our diet with beans on toast.
It's a shame about the coffee, quite often the problem isn't the machine or even the coffee beans generally - it's nobody does a really good job of showing the staff how to combine them to make a good drink.

Ha ha, baked beans is the other thing that we just don't get! I was expecting mushy peas with everything...
I know what you mean with the coffee training. Too many places think a decent expensive machine and some beans will work magic. I've had way too many coffees that are scalding hot or the milk has been burnt... Leaves a foul taste in the mouth.
I almost forgot, out favourite tv series while eating
I've heard @dreemsteem is partial to them as well.
Boom boom!
I never got into this show... Too crunchy to eat...
The interior really doesn't match the outside, I mean it really looks great inside. Chips with lasagna though? I don't know about that :P
Yes, the inside is really quite nice, but the outside is completely unwelcoming!
Chips and everything! It is crazy!
I’m glad the kids enjoyed it.
Every time we travel or if when boredom strikes specially when flights are delayed, we always checkout trip advisor for recommended restaunts or places to dine in the location we’re going so we can save time and effort & most specially money.
Thanks for sharin g your experience @bengy!
Yes, I should try to do that more often.. I just google what is around and wander around randomly!
You always find nice places to sit and eat. Looks like a good meal and a good place.
I like having warm lunches! My wife is happy with sandwiches, but I like something more satisfying!
@bengy,
Lasagna ... and chips. Only the English. :-)
Quill
Exactly! I knew potatoes were big here, but the proliferation of chips with everything is pretty crazy!
