Co Op - Cherry Bakewells

Good Afternoon,

I mentioned earlier on about how I stuffed my face with cherry bakewells last night. Well here are the culprits!

Cherry Bakewells

Pastry cases layered with a raspberry flavour jam, moist almond flavoured sponge cake and fondant icing, topped with half glacé cherry.

I was aching so much for something sweet last night. Originally I wanted something jammy. My darling husband went to the shops for me and I gave him a list. First on the list were Viennese whirls followed by jam tarts and if push came to shove, Galaxy Salted Caramel Chocolate. Granted the last doesn’t have the slightest bit of jam, but that was the only other thing I could think of. He rang me to say the supermarket didn’t have anything on the list. He said they did have bakewell tarts. I do love a bakewell tart and it does have a small amount of jam in them, so I settled for these. I’m glad I did! The pastry was so buttery and the fondant icing was nice and soft. Some bakewells I’ve had in the past have had a burnt taste, too crumbly and the icing is too hard. These were really nice. I usually pick the cherry off the top and give it to my husband as I’m not really a fan of glacé cherries, but these were actually quite nice. The jam was very fruity too. I really liked the almond flavour of the sponge in the middle. It was almost like a frangipane. These were so delicious, I ended up eating all 6! That’s my daily calories and then some. Just as well I did my work out today!

I have had cherry bakewells before. I have had Mr Kipling ones, Tesco ones and Asda ones. I have to say these are by far the best. I will definitely go for these again over the well known cake brands. Love love love!

These look super good. They almost remind me of an egg tart but in a different form. It seems especially good because the middle of it was nice and soft. I'v had some cookie type things before that looked a lot like a tart but they were hard as a rock and the middle was just some type of hard filling. Not hard like a rock but just not soft and creamy like you'd expect for its appearance.

@jmido8 I love an egg custard tart. I really don't like hard foods. Soft and creamy all the way! :-)
