The Old Dog Showcases: Why Are We So Fascinated With Sunsets?!
"Hurry! Come Quick! Right Away!"
At my house similar expressions are enthusiastically yelled out a few times a week! The sun and sky are putting on another show and it's time to stop whatever it is that you're doing and take it all in!

Why Are Humans So Fascinated By Sunsets?
This shot, taken from our balcony a few days ago has me thinking about our fascination with sunsets!
Is It The Color?
Is it that warm orange red glow? After all, aren't we as equally mesmerized when staring into a fire? Who hasn't experienced the trance-like effect that the dancing flames in a fire pit or fireplace have over us? In an article entitled "The Color Psychology of Orange" the author makes the following points about this particular color:
- It is a mix of yellow and red and is said to be an energetic color.
- Orange creates sentiments of warmth, excitement, enthusiasm.
- Orange is frequently used to draw attention, for example traffic signs and advertising. Think of a safety cone!
Is It The Passage of Time?
- Perhaps it's the fact that we are turning the page on another day of history. The setting sun leaves no doubt about the passage of time and the fact that tomorrow brings a fresh start with new hope!
- As the character Anne of Green Gables said "Every day is a fresh start with no mistakes in it!"
Perhaps It's Just The Pure Beauty?
- Maybe it's the canvass that the sky becomes rather than the sun itself. As the fiery ball disappears into the horizon it paints the sky with colors and details that do not come into focus under harsher light!
I can never get enough of this type of view!

I heard (possibly from an old wive) that at sunset there is a crack between the worlds. And old wives know a thing or three :-)

For me it's the apparent infinity of it all. The scale, the variety, the power, the amount of life, etc. Nice shots, and questions!

I personally like the feeling of the day is ending calm and smoothly covering everything with that warm light. Problems and stress of the day feel very distant in that moments. 🌇

I love sunsets because I can have a good look at this monster (the Sun) without my eyes getting hurt. I have seen a lot of beautiful sunsets but the one with most crazy colors was a few months ago right after a thunderstorm had passed.

To me, it is the amazement I get from realizing the Earth has turned and moved, almost like it needs to give it's side a rest. Makes me think about how small we are in this great big universe, and realize that someone, somewhere else is probably looking the opposite direction of me and seeing the sunrise.
This makes my heart melt :'(!
