I don't know why they are so rare. Luckily, it wasn't too expensive, I paid about 8.5 Euro for it. I think it's not as bad as your Stapelia gigantea but your nose will not love it!
I never saw them on sale.

Trichocaulon cactiforme and
Pseudolithos?
Yes, and Hoodia
Do they also have a bad smell?
Yes. Trichocaulon is the old name for Larryleachia
