Nevada Highway

On our trip to the suspicious0bservers conference in 2017, we stopped and did some roadside rockhounding along the way. As long as the car was stopped, we did some roadside photography too. This shot looks back down the hill we just climbed and across the valley floor at the snow capped peaks in the distance. Taken with the Digimax S500.
It was an incredibly fun trip, fishy and I finally made it Mesa Verde... and the park was mostly closed for another month. This was as close as we could get to the really cool stuff:

Beautiful country. Mesa Verde looks like a cool place. What is the reason for keeping it closed?
We were there before the official start of tourist season. They have some areas open year round, but the coolest stuff is only accessible Memorial Day through Labor Day and only with a guide.
