Different stories of Cossacks mountain

Today I would like to tell you about the place where I live. This district in the city of Khabarovsk called the Cossack Mountain. The name was assigned to this area because about 100 years ago here were built the main buildings of the Ussuri Cossack army, located in Khabarovsk. This place was chosen for the location of the Ussuri Cossack army not for nothing, it is the highest place on the shoreline of the city of Khabarovsk.
About the buildings of Ussuriysk Cossack army I'll talk a little later, when we get to them, and while we go down the southern slope of the Cossack Mountain.

The path along the street that used to be called Voznesenskaya leads us to the place where more than 100 years ago the trade enterprises of the famous Chinese merchant Typhontai, about which I wrote earlier.I do not know what it is connected with, but for 160 years of existence of the city that Khabarovsk( will celebrate this year), local authorities have not managed to create in this street even more or less normal conditions for traffic here are still ordinary land and no traces of asphalt which have already been laid. The greater part of the southern slope of this mountain is built up with barracks whose age is more than 70 years.

IMG_20180306_161822_HDR.jpg

They were built in the times when Joseph Stalin was in charge of the Soviet Union. Against the background of a couple of newly built high-rise apartment buildings, these barracks seem particularly contrasting.
IMG_20180306_161623_HDR.jpg

In the barracks there is absolutely no sewerage, the wiring is in a depressing state, and the inhabitants are a contingent, which can be judged by looking at this fence near a destroyed and burned barrack, on the fence which has a mass of empty beer bottles.

IMG_20180306_161652_HDR.jpg

And a dull yellow-green leaflet encourages those wishing to go to the help center for treatment of alcoholism...And this is all while somebody the most in charge( in modern Russia) tells to the whole world on TV about the new Russian military rockets on some unknown nuclear fuel((.

But we will leave aside frightening barracks, we will depart a little to the right there where the saved wooden small houses beautiful and draw attention.

IMG_20180305_174912.jpg

We descend down the snow-covered road.

IMG_20180305_174923.jpg

and around the corner of the destroyed skeleton of the building in the rays of the setting sun, you can see here is such a pretty house, which is 50 years old, if not more

IMG_20180305_174940.jpg

By the way - Google map of the district

if this path goes down, then we will be at the very bottom of the ravine, which is formed by a stream called Sawmill.

IMG_20180305_175447.jpg

Personally, I would have led everyone here who would like to see what Khabarovsk looked like 100 years ago. it seems to me exactly as it looks now this place -a ravine, on the slopes built up with one-story wooden houses.

IMG_20180305_175220.jpg

In general the first photo that I have and on which the area is depicted Where I now live is dated by the end of the 19th century.for a group of artillerymen, located on the nearby cape, we can clearly see that almost empty part of the coast, which is now called Cossack Mountain.

I pass by the old buildings once belonged to the Chinese merchant Tifontai

IMG_20180302_172453.jpg

we go to the crossroads, and climbing the mountain from the other side along the road that now leads along the river cargo port.

IMG_20180302_172751.jpg

But if you look at the rights to the foot of the mountain

IMG_20180302_172720.jpg

you understand that it was here that the photographer was photographing the mouth of the Sawmill stream somewhere about 125 years ago..

This place now

While climbing the hill I will tell you about old age, which most residents of the region do not remember about this. And earlier the district was called the Chinese Quarter.as I said here, there was an enterprise of the richest Khabarovsk merchant from China.Naturally, other, small entrepreneurs from China, tried to settle close to this large trade association. But of course the main role in the population of this area by the inhabitants of China was played by the plague epidemics that erupted in Manchuria near the Russian border and the city of Khabarovsk in 1911-local authorities simply evicted the Chinese in the areas designated for this purpose.

The ancient map of 1914 has the inscription "китайская слобода", this means Chinatown. This is a southern slope of the Cossack mountain that was inhabited by the Chinese people. Unfortunately the photos are a little bit but those that are make it clear that the area was very picturesque- the opposite slope on the photo below.

FB_IMG_1459720312098_1506424885122.jpg
Going upstairs. We find ourselves in a neighborhood consisting of two modern high-rise buildings and a lot of small three-story houses built as it seems to me in the early 1950s.

IMG_20180302_172902.jpg

Climbing the mountain is very steep.

IMG_20180306_123914_HDR.jpg

Down located Khabarovsk cargo river port

IMG_20180306_124026_HDR.jpg

but I will tell about it somehow separately,I am very attracted to the old warehouse buildings (of the beginning of the XX century)

IMG_20180306_124016_HDR.jpg

A new high-rise building remains on my left and I turn right to the top, venturing Into the depths of the district.

IMG_20180302_173551_HDR.jpg

lovers of graffiti do not get bored

IMG_20180302_173619_HDR.jpg

some houses need repair, some are quite decent condition

IMG_20180302_173738_HDR.jpg

In general, this place offers an excellent view of the river.

IMG_20180302_173928_HDR.jpg

Тhe exact date of construction of this area I do not know but I guess that all the same it's the beginning of 1950s.

IMG_20180302_174015_HDR.jpg

taking into account the peculiarities of the architectural design of the courtyards

IMG_20180302_173920_HDR.jpg

and the surrounding terrain and also some details and elements in the houses themselves,IMG_20180302_173845_HDR.jpg

I am inclined to assume that they were built by Japanese prisoners of war

IMG_20180302_173933_HDR.jpg

Intricate paths we leave this area and go to the very top of the hill where there is now a school,
walking along the path and another one of the old beautiful wooden houses.

IMG_20180302_175511_HDR.jpg

Well, my memory as a historian again promptly prompts images from the past. April 1920 and the Japanese artbattery, located right here,

FB_IMG_1520425766228.jpg

fire on the partisan units and formations that entered the left bank of the Amur and took part in the civil war

Аnd now on a meandering path we come down from the north side of the mountain and on our way just all the buildings of the Ussuri Cossack army are located in my neighborhood.

IMG_20180302_175215_HDR.jpg

Тhe initial appointment of these two buildings is unknown to me and even the local Society for the Protection of Monuments of History and Culture.

IMG_20180302_175011_HDR.jpg

I am inclined to assume that here the quartermaster's economic services were located considering the proximity of these two buildings directly to the railway branch and the river cargo port.We pass through the roadway of Brestskaya Street, a hollow that was once a ravine of another unknown stream and will rise directly to the barracks of the Ussuri Cossack troops that are located on a nearby hill.
And on the way we'll see how this area looked in the late seventies early eighties of the last century.

1442000.jpg

The barracks of Ussuri Cossack troops hid behind the central and left houses. And although their territory seems to be banned for outsiders, since there is now a military commissariat, but it's easy enough to go there because the back gate is always open.I love this place. I think history itself breathes here.

IMG_20180305_155459_HDR.jpg

The only thing I can not understand is why the originally beautiful red brick "comrades military" dyed in this vulgar pink color.

IMG_20180305_155541_HDR.jpg

Serious-looking mustached men standing at the entrance, having noticed me seeing that I took out the phone, were waryly asked: "And who are you looking for here?", probably suspecting me of an American spy)))I leave this hospitable place, I went to where the last,5th building of the Ussuri Cossack army. And this is already getting the second hill, but still like one component of the Cossack mountain.

IMG_20180305_153611_HDR.jpg

It can be seen that initially the building was one-storey, and the second floor was completed much later.

Well, perhaps we will end with the buildings of Ussuri Cossack army and we will return again to the side of the Cossack mountain. Here we are awaited by the ruins of the buildings of the former power station,

IMG_20180305_153358_HDR.jpg

with which all the equipment has long been dismantled, only the walls remain.

IMG_20180305_153515_HDR.jpg

Well, as we see, graffiti lovers tried here too.Next to the ruins of the old power plant is a new, newly built more powerful power station.

IMG_20180305_153803_HDR.jpg

Turn around in the opposite direction and rise a little more up the slope

IMG_20180305_154035_HDR.jpg

Two-story apartment buildings built along the slope were intended for workers located near the Khabarovsk oil refinery.

IMG_20180305_154040_HDR.jpg
And one more turn to the right to go along the old road that passes down behind the former barracks of the Cossack Army. At the very top of the hill we are met by an old bomb shelter but probably still in a well-groomed state.

IMG_20180305_154150_HDR.jpg

Оn apartment buildings standing nearby still there were signs of times of Soviet Union,Here, apparently, once there was a store selling bread last two letters ( * it must to be БУЛОЧНАЯ sign*) with a sign already someone "carefully" took himself.

IMG_20180305_155004_HDR.jpg

Such people live here - caring to someone else's colored and black metal..
We pass by someone's merry decorated walls

IMG_20180305_154745_HDR.jpg

leaving aside the building of 1940s of construction in which the training fire brigade is located, previously there was located a fire unit that guarded the fire situation at the Khabarovsk oil refinery.

IMG_20180305_154559_HDR.jpg

Аgain we move across Brestskaya street and bypassing the South Korean hotel "Arirang"

IMG_20180302_175811_HDR.jpg

We return to that point of the route from where we started it.

The sunset on the Cossack mountain... ahead to the border with China is only 18 km.
