Street photography: He SHUT my eyes so I can SEE

I wasn't born blind

i was born like you were, perfect....complete
but i didn't see that at the time
i thought i was angry, i was needy
i was always wondering why i was born here
why my parent couldn't afford what every other kid had
why i had to work
am i raising myself?
I didn't ride in cars at the time, not till i left primary school
school was a trekking distance, maybe not for you, but for me

i wasn't born blind
maybe imperfect, maybe unwanted, but not blind

i ran around like you did
i laughed and cried like you did
i had infections like you did
but one a little more serious than the others
cataract....you probably had it too
just that you had people who value you enough or could just afford a cure
but you didn't appreciate it, you knew not the value

i was made it

i wasn't born blind
so you would understand why i lived three full years in fear, in paranoia
you hear a sound you shudder, you feel a touch, you shudder
you are in the dark, you have probably been there too
the difference is, i couldn't run out of the room, i couldn't run to my mom, i couldn't reach for a torch
i was alone

i wasn't born blind
so you cant blame me when familiar voices sound strange still
what's that?, who's there?
people around you, but you are on your own
holding your hands, but you are on your own
the hugs warmed the body, but not the soul
i was in a vacuum, no beginning, no end
just fear,
just
hope
less
ness

but then i began to see
to see how complete i then was
to see how perfect i now am
this wasn't recorded in regret, just reflections

i wasn't born blind, but now i'm blessed with it
i see through my ears, my nose, my skin
i see what your binoculars never will
i see the soul of man, i see the spirit of birds, i see what goes on in trees
i see what is to be
seeing is believing, not seeing is imagining
imagination is power, i am stronger than you ever will

i wasn't born blind just to be able to compare
my sight blurred my vision
my sight was a consolation
i have known fear, i have fought fear, i have overcome fear

He shut my eyes so i can see
