Janitor in Train Station in Black and White #Streetphotography

He works invisibly in this crowded train station.

You see him but you think he does not exist. You will really see him if you need him, for example, to clean public basin.

I see him cleaning train station floor near toilet. People come and go around him. Cleaners who work in train stations now always wear uniform and bring some stuffs in their bag.

Being a janitor actually is a good choice for people who really need job. An Italian senator used to be a janitor while he studied economy in college. But, Indonesian does not give some respect to this kind of job. They think that this is a dirty work with lowest salary. Here in Jakarta nobody care for janitor.

Salary of cleaner is the lowest rate among other jobs in Jakarta Government offices. Based on data for 2016, janitors in office get only Rp 4.030.000 (US$ 290) per month or 1.3 times Regional Minimum Wages (Upah Minimum Regional/UMR ). 1

If we look other countries' basic wage policy, Indonesian janitors salary is far below their standard. For example, Singapore government set basic salary of S$ 1,000 (Rp 10 million or US$ 800) for janitors in 2014. 2

Aku melihatnya sedang membersihkan lantai stasiun dekat toilet.
