Future: Motivation and the Power of Will

in #story6 years ago

Two centuries ago an erudite person had the opportunity to learn almost all of maths, physics and biology and to get acquainted with most existing theories. Now comes the era of “Infocalypse” - one must chose to be a specialist and a professional or to trust others in most fields of knowledge: be it politicians, bloggers or friends.

New scientific articles are being published almost constantly - a lot more, than a single person can read and understand. Most likely in a few years the mankind will create personalized AI helpers and bots, that will filter and gather all the information required. Such systems will support our decision making processes: most likely, they will be able to offer us the best option for most situations.

Technology is a double-edged sword. What challenges lie ahead? Let’s try and imagine.

  1. We will experience problems trying to explain our children the concept of work and labor. The era of Consumption will hopefully end, yet most complicated, monotonous and challenging processes will be completed by robots, machines and AI.
  2. In a world filled with billions of competitors and the best machines possible, some children will start to lose their motivation. The robots will surpass them in almost every field and activity possible.
  3. Parents will have to explain their children the culture and masterpieces of the old. It will not be easy - the children won’t share our archetypes and they will have a different basis for conflict. Yet, no culture is possible without the combination of a Master and a Spectator.
  4. Parents will have to help their children to learn to make right choices without the help of various applications and personal AI-advisers. Today we can trust a GPS navigator completely - tomorrow, our kids may trust their apps on choosing a life partner (for example). Simply forbidding your child to use such assistant may not work - plus the kid may easily fall behind his peers who will rely on technology.

In the world, dominated by robots, machines and AI, the parents will have to teach their children to make right and more importantly - independent decisions. The power of will may become the most valuable human quality.
