Nose ring winked at me. He was always goofing around. How could anyone with a past such as his end up here, planting vegetables, so far from the chaos of the city. He had lived off that chaos for most of his life, injected it into his veins along with who knows what else.

Back when I met him, he was two people. One wanted to die. The other wanted this.

He had pained his face with mud. Had I not known better, I would have mistaken it for an attempt to make me laugh. He had done it for himself though. For all his faults, Nose Ring knew how to play. Unlike the rest of us, he belonged here, out in the wild.

He stood up and looked out over his kingdom as he planted his feet firmly into the ground. He inhaled as he closed his eyes and as he exhaled, he screamed at the top of his lungs.

Thanks! It’s always really encouraging when someone reads my fiction, even if it’s just one of the freewrites. This character is from a story I’ve yet to make public although, this is not included in the story, just trying to use the same character.
