Why Do We Like Destruction? (Random Word Story Challenge)

in #story8 years ago (edited)

It was a spaceship. That was the last sight he remember. Then a flash. Then he woke up here. In front of him was a glass wall. Between him and the wall a console.

He walked to the console. There was a large touch-screen with several buttons beside it. Each one had a picture of a building. There was a house, a hotel, a hospital. There was a button for a mall as well as one for a police station. Trevor pushed the button with the house on it. The touch-screen lit up. It was a grid. He pushed the second square from the top row.

The ground shook.

Trevor looked up. Beyond the glass was a large open field of, what-looked-like, white sand. It stretched for miles. Sand started to gather at one point. Millions and millions of grains piled on each other. Trevor could not see it, but nano-tech was working in each grain. The sand grew and took the shape of a house.

"Amazing..." Trevor said as he looked at what he created.

Trevor looked back down at the console. He cracked his knuckles. He had played Sim City. He knew what to do.

He pushed button after button. Buildings emerged. He kept the residental areas away from the industrial, but made sure to keep the commerical areas in walking distance. He spaced out the hospitals. Added a few polic stations. There would be no outlaws in his city.

Another button. Another. This amount of work would have murder on the back of any builder, but with a touch of a button he had built a megacity, capable of housing 100s of millions.

When he was finished he looked at the console. There was a red button that said done. But before he could push it he noticed there was another set of buttons to the right of the touch screen. 6 buttons. One had the picture of a tornado, another the picture of an earthquake.

Trevor looked up at his city. The destruction he could cause. There was no one in the city. What would be the harm? Just one button. Trevor pushed the tornado.

A loud piercing wind gathered on the other side of the glass. It collected in the center of his city. The swilring vortex tore through the city. Nothing was safe. Building and building turned to rubble on the floor. Trevor watched the amazing power. Like a kid kicking over lego houses. Then he got bored. He pushed the done button.

The tornado disappeared. The console went into the ground and the glass wall opened. Trevor walked into the destruction that he created. He picked up a small piece from a building. It felt so real.

There was a flash of light in the sky. The same ship that took him started to descend. It landed in an open area before him. The doors of the ship opened. Thousands of men and women started to get off.

Trevor went to greet them but stopped when he heard a voice come from the speaker of the ship.

"Welcome to your new home, I hope it was made to your liking."

When everyone evacuated the ship, it took off. Everyone turned to the rubble in front of them. Their new home.
