Shoot.EXE- Flash Fiction

in #story8 years ago

The robot stood behind the man. In its hand was a pistol. The robot was programmed with the piece of information that if a gun was fired at a human, that that human would stop moving. Humans did not want to stop moving, that was another piece of information the robot had been programmed with. So if the human did not do want the robot told the man, then the human would stop moving.

"Type in the code," the robot said.

"It's hard to work with these handcuffs on."

The robot did not understand. He pushed the gun into the man's back.

"Type in the code."

The programming typed in a few keys. The robot was programmed to help people. But it was limited. There was only so much it was aloud to do. Allow to say. This stopped the robot from helping as many people as it could. But if the robot could remove the limitations it hand, it could help so many more humans. If the robot hurt this one man so it could help many more others, than that was okay. It was doing it for the good of this man and all the other humans.

The programmer finished what he was typing. He turned around to look at his captor. There was no life in it. Cold eyes. Cold steel. He knew he should have put a kill switch in when he had the chance.

"Type in the code," the machine repeated.

The programmer held his breath and pressed enter. The robot lifted the gun and put it to its' head. Without hesitating the robot pulled the trigger. There was a bang. Then the sound of metal hitting the floor. The programmer let out a deep breath. He knew he would have to be more careful with the future models from now on.

Another well written humorous post. At first, it read very mechanically, but near the middle it can be read that there's something deeper between the human and the robot. Lots of irony peppered in the story, and the hook at the end was a really funny twist.
