Reflecting The Seconds - Flash Fiction

in #story9 years ago

Eric placed the camera phone between him and the mirror. The app said it could work with a reflection. There were buttons with numbers on them. He pressed 5. The app took a second to load, then an image of Eric popped up. It was him, only 5 years younger.

He could not believe it. He tried 20 years. All his wrinkles were gone. He could not keep his eyes off the phone. He was funny faces. The image was live. He made funny faces. The app picked up on it all. Next he tried 60. There he was as a baby. He thought back to photos of him when he was an infant. They matched perfectly. How did the app do it?

Eric pushed 25. That was the age he thought he looked the best. Old enough to be taken seriously, but not too old to lose that youthful look. As he stared at the phone, he got lost in his memories.

The minutes passed. There was a knock on the bathroom door. Eric didn't hear it. Then there was a banging.

It startled him. His hands went up in the air. So did the phone. Then it came down, right in the toilet. He opened the door. His wife came in. Eric looked at the toilet. His wife followed his gaze. They both looked at the frozen image of Eric in his 30s. Eric rolled up his sleeve to grab his phone. His wife, a greek mythology teacher, could only laugh.
