A Deep Breath (Random Word Story)

in #story9 years ago (edited)

He took a deep breath of the gas into lungs. The gas surged through his body. It was only an hour since his last hit. Too soon according to the doctors. An addict they called him. But he felt so good. So strong. Energized. He could run a marathon. It looked at the inhaler. He was running low. But the woman he was meeting would fix that.

'The doctor will see you now."

Oliver jumped out of his seat. He pushed passed the slow moving nurse and accosted the doctor.

"You said I could a huge supply from you over the phone, a stronger dose, that is what you told me."

The doctor looked at the shaking man before him. She smiled.

"Nice to meet you..."

"The stuff, did you lie to me...  I don't like liars."

"Please Oliver, sit, no need for an altercation. I will give you more than you can handle."

"I don't want to sit."

"Very well." The doctor opened the top drawer and pulled out a parcel. She handed it to the addict.

"Is this it?"

She nodded. The addict opened the box. There was 4 containors of blue liquid.

"Green... the liquid is green. What shit are you trying to pull?"

"I said it was a stronger dose did I not? Why do you think it would be the same colour?"

"I... if you are messing with me... how much?" asked the addict.

"Payment... this batch is on the house."

"What's the catch?"

"You can pay me next time, you will be back no?"

"We will see," he replied. Then he opened the door and rushed home.

                                                                                               -

One night. That was all the time that passed. But in those hours worlds fell and rose. Oliver wrote two novels. He painted a dozen works of quality, although he didn't know how to paint. He had detailed notes for a symphony. The cure for a disease was on a napkin and there was instructions for an invention he knew was genius but could not understand in the morning when his supply had run out. The four containers were empty. He needed more.

"DOCTOR!" Oliver yelled in front of the clinic. "Let me in." He threw a rock at the locked glass door. It cracked. He picked up another. But the doctor arrived before he could throw it.

"Oliver, that was fast, I thought you would be a week, please come in."

The doctor lead the way to one of the patient rooms.

"Have a seat," she instructed.

"No, just give me more before I hurt you."

The doctor didn't flinch. She turned and pushed a button on her computer. Oliver's body sat in the chair.

"I said, take a seat."

"What, what did you do to me," Oliver tried to get up but his body was no longer under his control.

"Did you ever wonder what was in that liquid you kept putting in your body?"

"Let me up!"

"It's nano-bots. The reason the doctors tell you not to take so much is because of the metal poisoning. But there is less risk in the bots I use, they are synthetic. However they do have other side effects." The doctor pushed another button on the computer. Oliver started to hit himself.

"Stop!"

"Your body belongs to me now, but don't worry, I will make you do more useful things than this."

Oliver stopped hitting himself. He began to cry. The doctor grabbed an inhaler and walked over to his patient. He put it into the mouth of his patient and pressed the tip. The liquid gas filled his body.

"Take a deep breath," she said.
