Chapter 10: More Drones And The Mother Blue Whale

The Navy’s headquarters had been tracking the Megalodon’s location for the past 24 hours,
and had monitored its body temperature, depth of altitude, pattern of movement and its heart rate.

They had ordered another fleet of specialized, fully-equipped mini-submarine drones to subdue and capture the massive shark. They never planned to use Navy Seals for capturing a shark that was near twice the size and more powerfully predacious than the now eaten Dunkleosteus.

Even if they had wanted to, they wouldn't find any volunteering Seals who would dare undertake such a daunting and dangerous task. There was a high chance that anybody who encountered the now defensive and agitated Megalodon Shark in the deep abyss, would undoubtedly be dealt with mercilessly.

Even when a shark isn't agitated, if one were to find themselves in the territories of a shark's vast hunting ground, there is also the possibility of being confronted by an intrigued sharp fanged patroller while it hunts for its next meal. Sharks have a tendency to follow their curiosity and they test out their curiosity by looking, smelling, and grabbing something to taste it using their mouth, since they have no other gripping apparatus.

They aren't necessarily known to eat humans, except for rare and special cases like the relentless Tiger Sharks

and their insatiable hunger for human flesh. Such a menacing and unforgiving species of shark are an exception to the rule.

With this knowledge taken into consideration, all military personnel were commanded to stay out of the waters and to allow only authorized drone machinery to engage with the Megalodon; the tremendously large shark that had jaws big enough to swallow ten people whole; the marine Titan, which could crush a long school bus with ease. No protective steel, or titanium cage would be able to fend off its tremendous jaws of crushing power and sheer strength.

The Navy released five submarines into the direction of the Megalodon and ordered a helicopter to overlook the situation from above, in case the shark surfaced from beneath. During this time, for the sake of the obvious precautions to ensure civilian safety, no commercial trading boats, fishermen boats, or pedestrian boats were allowed in the area.

Navy ships spread about the area and blocked off a large portion of the ocean, and each ship was monitoring their radars to intercept any unknown and unauthorized boats and ships, which were trespassing. Police boats were on the outside skirts of the Navy fleet, and the entire operation was a 14-mile radius in all directions from the known location of the shark.

Deep below in the ocean, around 7,100 feet in depth, the Megalodon was tracking down a scent of blood that it smelled. The shark slowly elevated in altitude, swimming upward towards the surface and the sunlit parts of the ocean. It was hungry once again and had completely digested the Dunkleosteus it had eaten the previous day. Its body was so massive that it was constantly searching for food to eat to maintain the high levels of energy needed to swim around and function as the top predator of the oceans. The scent trail of the blood was only a few miles away and it was casually gliding forward, following its nose with hunger and a killer’s instinct.

The Navy Submarines, using their radar and tracking device, were zoning in on the Megalodon and were about 3 and half miles away from acquiring a visual of the shark underwater.

The Megalodon was getting closer to the source of blood and began to pick up the pace. Its powerful tail swiped left and right, propelling the predator with extreme strength and force that the water being pushed from behind the tail could knock a creature half the shark’s size into a tumbling roll backwards. The bloody scent was only half a mile away, and the Megalodon could sense another shark in the vicinity. The blood in the water was getting thicker as the Megalodon approached closer to the targeted area.

The Megalodon arrived on the scene to witness a ripped-open Blue Whale calf flailing and dying.

There was a 23 foot long Great White Shark that was feasting on the young Blue Whale, but stopped in mid-bite and swam away immediately after seeing the massive Megalodon rush towards the young, dead baby whale’s body. The Blue Whale calf was only 5 months old and was 2.8 tons and 19 feet in length. The body was already more than half eaten and the whale had died only fifteen minutes ago before the Megalodon had arrived. By the looks of the different bite marks around the stomach area, the Great White Shark wasn’t feasting alone the entire time. It seemed that sometime earlier, a couple of Hammerhead sharks, and a Mako Shark also had their fill of the baby Blue Whale.

The Megalodon didn’t think twice before opening its extremely large jaws and slamming down on the rest of the body. It chomped the young Blue Whale up with ease like a piece of chewing gum and swallowed it quickly. The leftovers of the small calf were hardly enough to satisfy the monstrous predator, and the Megalodon pressed forward searching for a worthy meal. After a few hundred feet of swimming, another more mature and enormous 81-foot long female Blue Whale was just up ahead swimming slowly in a sluggish manner.

She was the mother of the calf that had been killed earlier that the sharks had torn apart. She was nearby the area of the calf still grieving, crying over the loss of her child. She knew her calf had fallen prey and victim to the sharks, but her motherly love wouldn’t let her sense of fear be overpowered. She wanted to be close, even though it was a dangerous situation for her. She was emotionally hurt and extremely attached to the baby whale, because it was her first child.

A half a mile up ahead of the mother Blue Whale, were 7 other Blue Whales. 4 were fully mature females, 2 were young males and 1 was a mature male. All of the Blue Whales in that family were well over 72-feet long, the largest one being a 101-feet long. They traveled together in groups, because they wanted to protect themselves from any sharks in the area. The 81-foot long mother Blue Whale didn’t sense the 68-foot long Megalodon shark stalking her from behind, until the mother Blue Whale turned her head to look back once again towards the direction of where her calf had been killed.

It was at this moment she had spotted the mega shark accelerating quickly, showing its ferocious mouth filled of serrated, sharp teeth. The Megalodon started to gain on her, closing the gap between them, and she let out a loud wailing cry to alert the group of Blue Whales ahead of her. She bolted forward with all her might, swimming frantically with the Megalodon only 400 feet away from her. The group of whales up ahead had turned around without hesitation to head back towards the direction of the mother whale that made the distress call for help. They were rushing to her aid as fast as their propelling tails and massive bodies would allow before it was too late.

Thank you bro, appreciate the nice comment from you. Believe it or not, I do all my posts on my old iPhone 5. It is a lot of effort and hard work. I hope to buy a new smartphone from the money I've made so far from Steemit. And no worries, I shall be posting Chapter 11 shortly! Glad you enjoy the storyline.

Nice! Makes me glad I am not a blue whale!

Thank you very much for reading and commenting. I am glad you enjoyed the underwater journey so far. As beautiful and big blue whales are, they are not equipped with any real defense against predators besides their towering and lengthy size.

Thank you for the update

The Blue Whale calf was only 5 months old and was 2.8 tons and 19 feet in length.

Detail like that is great to read in your story.

Also, what's up with the whale-hate man?

Lol appreciate the feedback as always man, I am always doing research before I write about a particular animal, so everything in this story is backed by some study. And when it's regarding the food chain, whales do not get a pass. It's never hate, it is only the instinctual way of Shark life. You are dolphin, maybe I should kill off some dolphins in the last few chapters for kicks and giggles haha
