Sky filled with lanterns - Loi Krathong Festival in Thailand (Part 3)
This is the last part of my travel report from Loi Krathong Festival in Chiang Mai. The first part is here, the second is here.
Yi Peng
During these three days, in the evenings, when Chiang Mai was filled with the light of the full moon, all locals and tourists were gathering by the Ping River and placing little lamps made of bread and banana leaves into the water. Why? To let all of hatred, anger, and defilements float away. To clean all bad emotions.
In some cities, like Chiang Mai, Loi Krathong Festival is connected to another event, Yi Peng. During the same time, thousands of people light the sky lanterns. They pray for a few seconds and then let the lanterns fly with the wind. The view of the night sky is really amazing!
Another event is the parade passing through Thapae Road and its competition for the best-decorated truck. The trucks are lead by people dressed in festive clothing. I enjoyed it very much, and although the crowd of tourists was huge, it did not bother me in the slightest.
It is really worth going to Thailand during the Sky Lantern Festival, so if you plan to visit this beautiful country this year in autumn, consider planning a trip so to participate in this wonderful event.

The sky looks amazing with all those lanterns floating around. Reminds me of the scene from the movie Tangled. I haven't had the chance to witness this in real life but I sure hope I one day do.
How amazing! It must be a wonderful and exciting feeling to see that in real. Thanks for sharing.
