Noah Goes on Safari

in #story6 years ago

Noah is three and is everything little boys are made of – slugs and snails and puppy dog tails! He loves the outdoors, feeling the earth on his fingers and exploring nature. So, when he woke up one morning to be told that he was about to go on his very first safari into the wild, he screeched with excitement and immediately ran to put on his boots, which apparently make him run very fast, quite a requirement when you are a pre-schooler.

Noah watched with impatience as his mom prepared a picnic for their trip and only asked about 10 times when they would be leaving. And then, they jumped into the car and took want seemed to be an almost endless journey to THE BUSHVELD. But whoa, once they did arrive at the gates to “the wild” Noah was greeted by grazing Zebra, Wildebeest and tiny Duikers – a warm welcome and a promise that an adventure was in store.

Since they were on quitter roads, Noah was clicked out of his safe car seat and was allowed to stand on the back seat – this was a first and the kid was totally stoked with this, it was almost as cool as what was to come! The little dude was given the task of “main spotter”, this means he has the very important job of spotting the animals first. Noah was proud of this duty and peered out of the window with concentration, eager to spot something wild and ferocious (his preferred type of animal).

And spot he did! About 10 minutes into his adventure Noah jumped with glee as he pointed out a family of HUGE White Rhino lying in an open field. At first he was confused because they didn’t have horns, but his family very sadly explained to him that his horns were removed so that poachers did not try to come steal them and kill the rhino while they were doing so. The boy accepted this sad state of affairs and continued to admire the magnificent beasts.

The bumpy and dusty roads lead them to plenty more beautiful creatures, some spotted by Noah and others were his family’s finds. They saw Impala, Kudu, more Zebra, Water Hogs, a mongoose, a hippo in the distance and one super large ostrich that made a charge at them (cheeky bird). The only thing they did not stumble upon that Noah really wanted to see was a creature with long legs and a neck that reaches the tree tops….do you know what animal this could be (hint: it has patch-like spots too).

All in all Noah had a fantastic first safari. The escapade ended off with a picnic full of treats, how better could an adventure get right? This kiddo was thrilled with the outing and is very eager to go on safari again, this time he has a lion and elephant sighting on his bucket list!

On the way home Noah fell fast asleep, safely back in his secure car chair. He dreamt of the bushveld and all of the treasures it beheld. What an awesome way to spend a Beautiful Sunday!

Questions

  1. What three things does Noah love?
  2. Why did the Rhinos not have horns?
  3. What animal has long legs and a neck that reaches the tree tops (hint: it has patch-like spots too)?
  4. What animals would Noah like to see on his next safari?
  5.  On what day of the week did Noah go on his safari?

That was a great looking trip, I'm sure our kids would love to have a safari so close to them! After seeing the questions at the end, I feel compelled to answer them!

  1. The outdoors, earth in his fingers and exploring nature
  2. Poachers
  3. Giraffe? or some sort of leftover dinosaur remnant....
  4. Lions and elephants!
  5. A glorious Sunday

Awe I am so stoked that you answered my questions - full marks for you!

I avoid ZOO because I do not agree on captivity but I would so like to go to safari..looks so much fun especially for a small boy..

I totally agree with you on the zoo thing! So much better seeing animals out in the wild.

...and healthier too...For animals and us as well.

@sweetpea,

A person deriving their pleasure from that of another.

So much of the world works because of the strangely deluded synaptic configuration called "Motherhood." Noah is a lucky young fellow indeed.

The excitement is like when I was a kid and got to play on a massive playground like huge. Or when I went on school excursions, bouncing up and down and wanting to do and see everything.

He he, sound you were also made out of slugs and snails ;)

This is so cool for Noah, what a great thing to let him go on a safari! I loved reading this post :)

I am super glad you enjoyed it :) thanks for reading @anouk.nox
