"To Kill A Runner" Chapter 15 "Explosive Division" (Cyberpunk Fiction)

Rain water spray from the front wheel hub soaked Jarome face lightly through the shattered glass broken window of the stolen Mercedes-Benz E-Class he had stolen. Red plastic fuel containers filled and in the back seat gave the intoxicating smell of petrol to the cars cab, the only ventilation being the window he had shattered with the crow bar. Now tossed in the back along with the FNP-90 and the two Kevlar vests stacked in a stiff pile.

Megana went through a newly acquired duffle bag from the casino heist containing a few banded stacks of cash, several cell phones and more weapons stolen from the main office of RiverHead. Mostly pistols with lots of 45. Caliber ammo boxes as well as a small wooden crate with four live fragmentation grenades packed in fiber.

“Holy Shit, I wonder where he got these from “ Megana said as she looked at the grenades encased in soft straw fiber.

“Be careful with that stuff we don't need anything sparking back there at all” Jarome responded

“Do any of those phones still have service ? I need a connection to the net still. If you didn't notice I didn't really have time to transfer any funds when we were in the casino.” Britney turned back to look at the inventory of things stolen from the heist.

Magena handed Britney a cell phone and Britney quickly activated the mobile wireless mode connecting her VR headset to the matrix. Moving her hands in front of her as to drag and scroll through different text articles in virtual space. Jarome kept his eyes on the road and the car was mostly silent until a wicked shout came from Britney as ripped her VR Goggles off. She turned around screaming at Magena.

“You fucked everything up. Our faces are all over the local news for murder, and the casino's accounts are all frozen. You Killed River Head and now Lone Star is probably investigating everything. I can't transfer the casino's funds and there is I damn manhunt for us now.” Britney loaded a fresh clip of 45.caliber bullets into her gun and cocked the slide back before turning and pointing it in Megana's face.

Megana responded with a fearsome growl in reaction before wrapping a finger around the pin of a grenade.

“Woh... Hold on, relax. Stop you two this whole car could blow and kill us all.” Jarome kept driving as he spoke wanting to pull over but knew if they stopped it might draw authorities.

“Jarome, Her little run got us into a lot of extra shit we didn't need and now there is absolutely no payday for it now. I can't believe you are siding with her!”

“Look we all need to stick together in this, we all did this. Just lower your weapon and try to find out if they have the description of this car ? Do you think you can tap into the Lone Star radio communication with what you have here ?”

“Yah, I think so “ Britney looked angry but lowered her weapon knowing the explosion would kill them all. “ But when we stop you two can go fuck each other, I'm gone! “

“Come on, don't be like that, I'm sure she had her reasons and was it not your idea to kill all those chip dealers.” Jarome said

“Those chip dealers are also wanted by Lone Star, and they killed people with drugs. Now it looks like we robed a business and threatened people with guns, and its on fucking camera, and we made nothing off of it because she had to go and kill River Head.”

“We will get another job”

“OH, before or after we all do decade in prison ? Or maybe if the native's casino pays Lone Star enough, they will just shoot us dead with no trial” Britney said frustrated putting her head back into her VR goggles.

The next several hours where silent until they reached the skyline of Pittsburgh one by one driving past large holographic moving billboards advertising a product. And they slowed just before the city line Britney took a bag of with the glock and Kevlar vest then a few stacks of cash. Then she hoped out of the car and disappeared down a dark ally by herself.
