Two years ago…

“Good morning Eli.”
He didn't have to open his eyes to know who it was. Not that he could. They were swollen shut from the beating he had gotten the night before. Some of his bones had started healing, but most of them were still broken. They wanted to test his healing process and put him through every form of torture that they could come up with, and after a few days Eli had lost count of how many there were.
He could feel as doctors examined him, the slightest touch pained, but he kept quiet and laid still. After a few years he had lost his will to fight. Every attempt to escape had failed and resulted in even more experiments. He knew he wasn't the only test subject, but for some reason he was kept separate from all the others. He was never told why he had been kept separate, but he could sometimes hear others walk past his room laughing.

There was one occasion that he remembered trying to get out. It was early morning, and his door had been unlocked for some reason. Cautiously he pushed it open to find no guards on the other side. He tried his best to blend in with everyone else, and it was pretty easy since everyone was wearing white pajama like outfits. He walked pasted what looked like a cafeteria, which was when he first spotted River and the guys. They were sitting at a table eating breakfast with a few of the other kids. He cautiously made his way over to them and once he got there everyone looked up.
“Eli?” River asked surprised. “When did you get here?”
He kept quit and stared at her with his head tilted to the side.
“Dude?” Seth waved his hand in front of Eli’s face.
Their gaze suddenly moved from him to the person behind him.
“Good morning kids” Elijah spoke in a calming tone, as he laid a hand on Eli’s shoulder.
Instinctively Eli flinched, but fearfully kept his gaze on River.
“I see you’ve met Eli here.”
“Oh we actually know each other.” Seth replied.
“Is that so?” His grip tightened on Eli’s shoulder.
“We didn’t know he was here to.”Nick added.
“He’s been helping us with something special.” Elijah replied.
As they spoke Eli’s vision began to blur and the voices became harder to understand, and before he knew it everything was dark. When he woke up he was once again in his room, tied to his bed with the doctor sitting on a chair in the corner. After that he tried to escape e few more times, but never made it.

The doctors were finally done for the day, leaving Eli with more injuries then the day before. His eyes could now slightly open, but everything was just a blur.
“The healing process seems to be speeding up.” Elijah spoke once they were alone.
“I’m gonna kill you.” Eli groaned in pain.
Elijah relied with a laugh before leaving.
