The Dragon's Blood (Part 25)

In which Lorelei Price suffers the indignities of Pokemon....

Well, they weren’t glowing. But they were damn startling. So blue that she could hardly take her eyes off of the man. He turned to her as he entered the train and she immediately looked away, perhaps too quickly. She gave him a moment before gawking some more.

He was staring back at her, unmoving. He’d stopped right in his tracks and those strange blue orbs were now locked on her own. He was tall, with short cropped dark hair. He was somewhere in his late thirties or early forties, she couldn’t be sure with that damned hat on his head. He held a black blazer over one arm, wore a white shirt, the top two buttons unfastened and jeans. He cut a damned handsome figure even without them, but those eyes took him over the edge.

She found herself still nervous about someone sitting next to her but for an entirely different reason now.

She turned away, unlocking her gaze from his own and shifted uncomfortably in her seat as he began to move again, heading to her side of the car. Fortunately or unfortunately, she wasn’t sure which just about now, he didn’t sit right next to her, instead taking his place across from her and two seats back.

What finally did sit next to her reminded her just how well her luck had run all day.

A mother and her boy, the brat screeching something or other about his lost Pokemon or Digimon or something-mon plopped down directly to her right. No, correction, practically on top of her right. The woman must have weighed something close to three hundred pounds, the boy who could be no older than eight weighed at least half that and both of them managed to fit themselves alongside her in the same seat she’d previously occupied all by herself. The smell of sour milk wafted right up into her nostrils giving a fine malodorous cap to this wonderful day.

“CHARIZARD!!! MAMA SE ME PIERDO MI CHARIZARD!!!” The ridiculous little turd hollered at the absolute top of his lungs.

“Te compro otro, muchacho, manana te compro otro, carajo.” Was her magnificent retort, no doubt pulled straight from the Dr Spock book of parenting.

Almost subconsciously she turned back to Mister Blue-eyes, already her best friend on the train. Apparently he’d born witness to her fine little ordeal as he shrugged and gave her a nice little smirk. He felt her pain and now she found herself feeling quite a bit foolish about being anxious about him taking the seat next to her.

She shrugged back, tried to give him the cutest smile she could muster, though after a day of the shit she waded through, it might’ve come out looking more like a snarl of some kind. She tried nonetheless before she let out her second sigh of the afternoon and turned back towards the front of the train.

Maybe she could sneak in a little power nap before her stop in thirty minutes if she could stand the screeching little fat kid and his odd smelling mother.

“MAMA MAMA MAMA, QUIERO UN RATTATA POKEMON TAMBIEN!!! ESE TAMBIEN, COMPRAMES ESE TAMBIEEEEEEEEN!!!”

   “Si, Armandito, ese tambien.”

   Sigh.
