The Dragon's Blood (Part 100)

In which Dragons face off...

100

No longer was she looking for weapons, no longer was she looking for ways to get through Thomas Blake, to kill the son of a bitch. Now she looked for an exit. Far from her, on the other end of the massive, cavernous lair she saw what could possibly be doorways. Right above them she saw what could also possibly be ancient, and quite rickety looking ladders leading upwards, perhaps to the outside, to New York City.

New York City, how strange that something so normal could be just above this world where monsters out of dark Fairy tales still lived and carried on. She wondered if it was still there, or if all of it, above and below had descended into the madness she saw before her.

The impossible monstrosity in front of her lifted it's head, it's glowing red eyes ignoring her and focusing on something behind her.

She turned with it, Blake following suit along with her and they both saw the cracks forming in the wall. Above the hum coming from the treasure horde, for it had become evident that it came from there and not from the massive glowing abomination that had been lurking below it, she heard a distant thunder.

At first it was far, as if from miles and miles away, a heavy crashing boom, slowly but surely growing closer and closer. As it neared, the cracks in the walls grew wider, more pronounced. What was at first two or three slightly random things spread out, becoming like a spiderweb of slow and steady destruction.

She began to back away, moving away from both that wall and the glowing apparition in the center of the room, this Reginmal thing. Blake followed suit, but he headed in the opposite direction, himself also giving both that wall and the Dragon thing a wide berth.

What could possibly be coming next, she wondered, and she also wondered just how much longer she had left before one of these damned things finally had enough and did her little ass in.

The steady booms were now becoming deafening, shaking the foundations of the room. Ancient dust and pebble rained down all about her. The feeble lights in the room the room flickered, the maddening hum that accompanied the gold all about her diminishing, becoming almost completely inaudible.

Again she desperately searched for a way out, one that was closer, one she could actually get to before the whole place came down. Her eyes stopped on something that shined brightly, something sharp.

It was the blade of a knife, a rather wicked looking one, one that would almost certainly be enchanted. Her eyes returning to Blake and the Dragon, she quickly bent down and took the blade, shoving it into her pants, within easy reach. They hadn't noticed a thing, so intent were they with the exploding wall.

It soon came down, all of it, every last piece, came down down with a loud crash which shook everything. A veritable cloud of dust and debris accompanied it's collapse, signaling the arrival of the latest player in this strange frightening journey.

It came with a roar, a sound so loud that it made her ears actually ring. Even the glowing monstrosity that Blake had called the Lord of Heaven and Hell took a step away from that howl, so great and ferocious it was.

It was Blackmoon, she knew it was. Even though the thing that had bashed it's way through that wall before her looked nothing like the man who'd helped her in so many ways during the nightmarish previous hours, she knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that it was him.

It wasn't the eyes, though they glowed the same fierce blue and their color was the only feature on this new creature that even vaguely resembled one of his own. It was something in her blood, something deeper, something she couldn't understand. It was like the dream he'd given her, that feeling of oneness she'd had with those people in that room.

She knew it was him, she just did.
