The Story of The Six Blind Men and the Elephant

in #story7 years ago

There were six men from a great city,
The six were learned men,
And they all set out to see the elephant,
Even if they were all blind,
They all wanted to satisfy the curiosity they had in their mind,
They all wanted to get their mind satisfied.

The first blind man moved close to the elephant,
And it looked as if the elephant wanted to fall,
He placed his hand upon the elephant’s broad and sturdy side,
The first blind man concluded in his heart that this elephant looked like a wall.

The second blind man went close to the elephant and felt the tusk,
He felt what he felt was round, smooth and sharp,
He exclaimed that the elephant looked like a spear.

The third man approached the standing elephant,
And he took the squirming trunk in his hands,
He boldly spoke that the elephant is like a snake.

The fourth blind man reached out to the elephant,
With eagerness of heart and held it around it’s knee
He exclaimed that this is one of a wondrous beast is this,
He looks just like an elephant.

The fifth man who placed his hand on the ear of the elephant,
Laughed and said even the blindest and dumbest of a man can tell what this is,
It is a fan.

The sixth man held the tail of the elephant,
As he concluded that the elephant is a rope.
The six men had a really long arguments as they were all convinced that what each of them saw was the right thing and they were both not wrong in any way because they individually gave the interpretation of what they saw, but one mistake they made was then to argue blindly and that is the same mistake we all make today.

Instead of us to believe that each person could view the world from a particular view and decide to believe what he believes, we feel that our own opinion is the correct one and as such the whole world must believe with us what we have decided to believe in.

To me that is one of the reasons for trouble and strive among people today, we all feel that what we know is what is right and we do not want to give heed to what the other person has to say or we believe that anyone who does not believe in our own believe is wrong and such a person is existing on the other side of the globe.

Hahahaha...You are right my dear. The world is a large place and we all need to do justice to other people's thought on things. We should listen to learn.

I remember hearing something like this while growing up. It is a really nice piece and let's us know that life presents itself to us in various ways.
